"This was the surprise pack of the year! Use to have a Lowe Contour IV: nice pack, but come on... unless your trip is 5 days+, or you are more of a gear head than a sensibly-minimalist hiker, i can't think of a decent excuse to have much more than 4.3K cubes. this pack is only about $90 and has the benefit of Lowe's paralux suspension technology (a la the contour III and IV). why buy a pack that is half again what you need and way more expensive?"

"I purchased an Outback 70 ten years ago. I love it. It has been very comfortable with loads up to 50#. It rides nice /stays close with me when I am off the trail or on cross country skies.
I use an after market external pocket (from REI)on the back, which is very convenient and adds a bit more capacity. The lack of the backpocket was my only issue with this bag. I got this at a terrific price from Campmor, less than $90 at the time. A great deal."

"I purchased a lowe alpine outback 70 nearly 12 years ago and have had the best adventures in the sierra nevada's and the sangre de cristo's with this particular. this is definately a minimalist hiker's hiker pack. it's light weight, durable, extremely comfortable(if you pack right), and like a loyal dog. I've had a better backpacking experience with this than any other pack i've purchased.!
go on... buy one!"
