"I got my McHale Alpineer for use as combo day pack for me and the dog, 2-4 hut hopping hikes and occassion pack animal service when the family decided to join me and the dog. I had also suffered from polio and back troubles, since repaired, and am very sensitive to how the pack fits and works. The McHales does wonderfully at handling a wide variety of loads, from 15 to 70lbs, providing me the ability of reloading/adjusting the ride of the pack on my hips. My previous Dana was nice but just didn't provide the type of support and adjustment that I sought. I also got concerned about the quality as the Dana "sewn on" logo rubbed off in one very rough afternoon of bushwacking...while it never fell apart....I certainly became concerned...and thus motivated further to order the McHale while out in the Cascades for a few days of hiking. It is beautifully made of first class materials...and seems a generation ahead of the Dana."
