"Living in Yosemite for 5 years, I found REI's Tourstar fullfilled many needs as a climbing pack and short-trip pack. This pack held up to many beatings as I dragged it along to many routes all over the valley and Tuolumne. I could easily fit a full rack, rope, harness, shoes, water and munchies inside the pack and then throw a trail rope over the top, and never blew one seam or zipper. This little pack also faired very well for 2-3 day tentless cross-country jaunts in the backcountry. When travelling light, the smaller packs sure are the way to go."

"Got my Tourstar at a closeout sale. Its a great large daypack/minimalist overnighter. Large side pockets with slots for XC skis, photo pods, etc, and a nice padded hipbelt. The only problem I had with it was the framesheet - its quite heavy and made the pack uncomfortable. I took it out and replaced it with a piece of closed cell foam that I can remove and use as a winter sit pad. If you can still find it, its a great value."
