"I've owned my "Mega" for (I believe)ten years. I use it regularly for Search & Rescue Missions and it has outlasted all of the "cheapies" that a lot of the Team Members bought! I generally use the "standard" bulb and find it plenty bright for treking and tracking, plus I get tremendous battery life! Simply the best headlamp I feel that I can own.

"The Petzl line of headlights is the Cadillac of lights. I use my Mega
while caving and most of the rest of our grotto uses a Petzl
product. The Mega is heavy with 3 C batteries but I can easily get
16+ hours out of one set of batteries, while running a halogen bulb.
It burns a hole through the blackness and that's important 100ft
underground. It will also accept AA batteries with the built in
adaptor. For backpacking I might choose the Micro or Zoom to
keep weight down. If you want the best in reliablity with
hands-free operation, you want a Petzl."
