Primus Multi Fuel Review

"Good stove, heats well, and seems pretty tough. My only problem is that this system seems to get stopped up using white fuel. You have to be very careful when you shut it off or it is a monster to restart. The good side is that it is easily field repairable, one you figure that out it is easy. I owned the Intl 600 (Whisperlite) and I liked it for a starter stove. I did manage to get a pretty nice simmer with white fuel but the stove becomes CoDependent and has to be constantly monitored.
Final word: Good Stove, but you need to understand it to use it properly. Handles boilovers better than other stoves. I am overall happy."

"I recently purchased the primus multi-fuel stove from REI and was delighted to find thatit heated a quart of water to a rapid boil in 3:15. Best of all, it can use both white fuel or canisters
making it ideal for true 4 season backpacking.
Backpacker recently tested the weight of the stove at 22
ounces but I found mine to weigh only 19 ounces, bringing it inline with most of the stoves in it's class.
Also, one can adjust the weight to some degree by using
a fuel bottle commenserate with the length of one's trip, eliminating excess weight to some degree."

"When I made my purchase, it was between this one and the MSR Dragonfly. I was impressed with the history and experience of Primus equipment as they have been the stove of choice for more expeditions then any other. The fuel pump on the Primus is metallic and looks to be tougher then the MSR's plastc pump. The ability to use gas cannisters as well as other common fuels is a great plus. When it comes to simmering however, I must give the MSR Dragonfly credit for flame control. I was told the Primus had simmering capabilities but have yet to experience it. You have to be careful not to pump up the fuel tank very much and even then simmering is almost non-existent. I ended up buying a simmering plate to compliment the stove. Perhaps this stove simmers better when using gas cannisters. The Primus folds down and packs better in my opinion."
