"i've seen this filter for $139 normally, but i got one new for $99. and i like the fact that you can get 13,000 gallons from it!!! yeah, 13 THOUSAND. ive used the PUR hiker and honestly im not too impressed with it. it gets dirty too fast, i think it get too hard to pump after too short a time span, and just the way you have to pump it seems like they didnt really try to make it easy for a tired backpacker. i know its lightweight. but if you dont get some peace of mind from a piece of equipment, then what good are all the RAVE reviews? the KatadynCombi has a nalgene bottle adaptor you attach onto the bottom and this is the setup ive come up with; the nalgene and the filter together stand a good 18 inches high, which is to my knees, in the closed position. its 24" open. i hover over the setup, with the base of the nalgene squeezed securely between my feet, as i use my upper body (weight and muscles) to do the pumping, rather than one arm and a lot of bad ergonomics to get the PUR to work. and man, in no time.....WATER is SERVED!! you gotta get this filter. i do have the PUR hiker by the way. ANYONE WANT IT?? GOOD PRICE!! (: oh and the weight is only 23 oz and its cleanable ceramic (just carry a green scrubby pad in the case it comes with) its also a .2 micron. the PUR hiker is a .3. plus i use unscented clorox bleach drops after i filter it. 2-3 drops per quart and 30 minutes to wait before drinking. there's my system. hope it works for YOU!!"

"I bought the combi for $99.00. I have pumped 30-40 gallons without any problems. When the pump starts to get hard, the combi can easily and quickly be disassembled for cleaning. A 30 second scrub and reassembly, and you are ready to go again. The pump is rugged, my 9 year old son fell down on a rocky trail and landed partly on the combi. The handle suffered a hairline crack, and is still fully functional. I like the combi, it is a quality item. I have pumped water from many different sources, and the combi gives the water a distinct flavor, which is not unpleasant. The 32 oz. nalgene bottles securely screw onto the bottom of the combi, which gives the unit a comfortable height for pumping. This filter is four times any PUR filter at twice the cost."
