Description
Great hike. I did it this past weekend in just under two days. There aren't many leaves on the trees this time of year though...the trail was a little bit drab in that respect. Most of it is an easy level hike with a little undulation here and there. The Athens-Big Fork section, however, is brutal! It is straight up and down over about 4 mountains. Once you get past this section though you\'re home free. The lower section of the trail from Viles branch through Winding Stairs back to Albert Pike is really the prettiest part of the hike.

Remember to bring your tevas or wading shoes.....you will have several river crossings that can't be accomplished just by jumping rocks. You will have to wade.

Directions to Hike
About 60 miles north of Texarkana...turn to go to Athens. Best trailhead is at Albert Pike Recreation Area.
