"Great spot and one of the few harder to access than most of the AT in VA. Either up to Spy rock and then north to the Priest, or up from Tye river. Superb water sources in lower elevations other than Tye river. As I always say, better to camp a shelter than find a secluded spot and leave new trace. Met Mr. Tyvek (Ron) just south of shelter. Nice guy, Good cause."

"Older shelter just southeast of The Priest summit. High step-off from floor of lean-to to ground (I almost killed myself!). Spring just behind shelter was slow and leaf-covered in Fall 2002.

If you stay for the night, consider the short walk to the lookout to catch the sunset."

"Stayed March 2006. Very trashy shelter. Poor water supply, picked over for fire wood. Possibly too accessible to locals. It's really a shame, but we packed out over 3 gallons of other people's trash. The Priest is a great mountain though!"

"This was a great shelter. There is a nice water source, and we were able to see a couple deer up close. "
