Yahtzee '01, 10/28/06 "Has the distinction as first stopping pt in NC, therefore, a little celebration shelter. Always in good spirits when there. Great camping beyond along the ridge. Can add a mile or so if you want. The area around the shelter is a little dark, but overall a plus."

Kerosene, 04/27/04 "Stopped in for an early dinner in April. Nice covered cooking area attached. Water source (Muskrat Creek) was already low but clear. I heard several tenters complain that the nearby sites weren't very level. I passed several nice sites next to the Trail over the next two miles."

If you stay at this shelter be sure to check out "Raven cliffs". (Blue blaze trail just south of the creek)" Please feel free to add your own comments.
