Description
A short but more difficult trail. From the grouse ridge trail you head east between Sand Ridge and the Black Buttes to Glacier Lake.This is a deep lake with a great golden trout population. The lake is surrounded by granite, with red fir. A short walk to the north gives you a view of the five lakes basin. There is no trail to these lakes but cross- country hiking is not difficult. You can also make your way cross-country southeast up to a saddle in the Black Buttes and then climb to the top for a spectacular view from the highest point in the area.(8030 feet) AWESOME Elevation 6900-7600 feet this is a fairly difficult trail Great views great fishing

Directions to Hike
Glacier lake trail bisects the grouse ridge trail. take I-80 from Sacramento towards Reno exit hiway 20 towards Nevada city. take right at bowman lake exit. Follow signs to grouse ridge campground. The trailhead is at the north west side of campground
