Description
A friend and I hiked from Alexander Springs to Hopkins Prairie this December. The weather was perfect and the scenery beautiful. If you have read The Yearling and/or seen the movie(1946 with Gregory Peck and Jane Wyman) this area will have special meaning for you.There are beautiful and plentiful campsites on ponds and open prairies along this stretch.
I was hoping to catch a glimpse of a black bear but didn't see one. Maybe next time. Florida hiking at its best!

various access points. At Hopkins Prairie campground or on US 19 north of Alexander Springs
