Description
This is a rigorous, rocky, and steep climb to the top of Springer Mountain, the southern terminus of the Appalachian Trail. For those wishing to guage their abilities to determine if they are ready for a thru-hike, this trail is supposed to be a superb test. It is 8.1 miles each way, with elevation changes of approximately 3,000 feet. The climb is through an old hardwood forest with several campsites. A shelter is located about two or three miles prior to the summit.

Directions to Hike
Take 85 to GA400 and follow GA400 to Dahlonega. From there follow the signs to Amicalola State park (approximately 15 miles west of Dahlonega).
