This is a rigorous, rocky, and steep climb to the top of Springer Mountain, the southern terminus of the Appalachian Trail. For those wishing to guage their abilities to determine if they are ready for a thru-hike, this trail is supposed to be a superb test. It is 8.1 miles each way, with elevation changes of approximately 3,000 feet. The climb is through an old hardwood forest with several campsites.
