Description
This is part of one large trail found at Perry Lake. This section of the trail is called Old Military trail and is by far my favorite trail at the lake. Having lived around the area for years, I have spent many nights camping out and days hiking on the trails. This section of the trail is the most rugged, which is the reason i enjoy it so much. Lots of ups and downs, but follows the lake providing plenty of scenic views. At one end of the trail is Old military trail campgrounds. A clean water faucet is available for trail use, which is nice. If you plan to camp at the campsites, you need to contact the lake offices and request permission, the campsites are "closed" but available to limited individuals for trail camping. All in all, the trail is usually not used by many people, leaving it a peaceful and usually litter-free environment. Directions to Hike
From Highway 24, turn north on Ferguson road, following the signs around the lake. Stay on Ferguson road until the signs show the turnoff for Old Military Trail camp. It should be on your left hand side if headed North. A smaller parking lot is available at the end of the turnoff from the road. A metal gate prevents users from driving up to the campsites, but the trail signs should be visible from here. The water faucet is up the road, past the gate near the first campsite.
