Description
moderate difficulty. 'The Ridge' runs the length of Isle Royale National Park, in Lake Superior. This trail will take you through about 900-1000' in elevation changes with fairly rugged trail conditions. The hike is one of the more subtly beautiful you'll ever experience. The trail will take you through a variety of climatic regions-dry exposed ridges; lush evergreen lined bogs; and vibrant stands of softwoods. Plan on a 4-7 day hike (one-way) with the opportunity to experience wonderful views from exposed vistas, and even one or more of the 'locals' a 1000+ moose herd! Campsites are located along the route, and an alternate trail route is possible. (expect 2-4 extra days for this hike) It simply doesn't get any better than this!

Directions to Hike
Ferry service is available from Grand Portage, MN; and from Copper Harbor or Houghton MI, in the states Upper Peninsula. Float plane service flys from Houghton.
