Crosby-manitou state park
I give this an awesome hike rating, but please note -- I AM A NEWBIE! My husband and I hiked in Manitou as our innaugural backpacking trip and it has us hooked for life. The trails are "rugged" in spots (read: steep in places, narrow in places, rocky, rooty) but well worth it for beautiful vistas, rivers, cascades, old-growth forest, fall color (we were there the 3rd weekend of September) very few people (only 21 camp sites, ranging from off the path to VERY remote), peace and beauty. There are many trails within the park -- we hiked in via the superior hiking trail to the river trail (to campground #5...amazing) and out via the river trail and the yellow birch trail. Can't wait to go back.
