Description
An easy hike, although not suggested at high tide. Wildlife seen included hawks, white tailed deer, and some crabs along a Neuse river beach. The river is wide, and looks more like a lake. Some sections of the trail head into swampy cypress forest, and loblolly pine forest on higher ground. Trail starts at a picnic area above a sandy river beach. More like to meet people fishing than other hikers.

Directions to Hike
From US 70 in Havelock, take NC 101 east about 6 miles to US 306 north. Sign to entrance is about 3 miles on left. From entrance parking area is 1 mile.
