Description
If you enjoy a peaceful view of the desert while getting a moderate workout, this is a wonderful hike. This is a great precursor to hiking Carlsbad Caverns. I would recommend hiking in the morning and then taking in the caverns for a nice "cool off" hike.
I did the hike around noon in mid-July which isn't bad as long as you dress for it and take water with you (no water in desert).
A great hike if you want to be on your own for a few hours and just take in the beauty of the desert.

Directions to Hike
From El Paso,TX, drive northeast on US Hwy 62/180 to Whites City, NM (142 miles). At Whites City, turn west and go about 7 miles (park road leading to the caverns). Take the scenic loop drive and find the trailhead at marker 9. Road is one-way so don't miss it!
