Description
San Pedro Parks varies in altitude from 9,500 ft. to 10,500 ft., through alpine meadows surrounded by spruce/fir covered hills. Water is available for the entire length of the hike and wildlife including several hard-to-find species of birds is relatively abundant. There is a good cross-section of plants and trees as well. Hike from May to October snow-free (usually) or cross country ski during the winter. Rainy season is July and August. Trail should be mostly mud-free by June. Beautiful starry nights and usually few hikers and a few on horseback. Take extra shoes for stream crossings. Best appreciated on a 2-3 day hike.

Directions to Hike
From Albuquerque, go N. on I-25 and exit at Bernalillo (about 15 miles N of ABQ) on the exit for NM 44. Drive for about 1.5 hours to Cuba, NM. Take 126 N. out of Cuba for 6.3 miles (paved). Turn LEFT on FR70 (well-maintained gravel), go about 3 miles to the trailhead. Parking area is on the RIGHT side, trailhead is marked Trail 51, San Pedro Parks Wilderness.

Contact Information
U.S. Forest Service in ABQ (505)842-3292.
Best map is USGS quad 7.5 min for Nacimiento Peak.
