Description
A 4000 footer that's relatively easy! A rocky climb through the forest for the first few miles (I saw a flurescent orange salamander here!), some nice exposed views, then more climbing in the woods. After 90 minutes, the trail splits off to Porter Mtn (can arrange a long hike along the ridge to Porter, Little Porter, and Blueberry Mtns if you have a car at the other end). The last push to the summit of Cascade is marked by cairns above treeline and there are great panoramic views of the high peaks area (Pitchoff, Slide, Marcy and more are visible). On the way down, be sure to take the side trip to the tiny summit of Porter and look back at Cascade. It's an up and down forested ridge, quite pleasant.

You can go for a swim in the lakes a mile from the trailhead afterwards)

Directions to Hike
Exit 31 (Elizabethtown) from I-87. Take 9N north, continue on 9N towards Keene, then take route 73 west (again towards Keene). 5 miles past Keene (just after 2 lakes), there's a small parking area marked Trail to Cascade.
