Description
This hike will take you from about 5400 ft to an elevation of 8600 feet and back to the starting point. It is an easy hike for the most part. Two worst things are you must ford the W. Fork of the Wallowa river and Glacier Pass is a long haul. You can do the lakes basin trail two directions once you get to 6 mile meadow. A trail map from the Forest Service is available. Trails are clearly marked. You go by 7 lakes on this trail. with access to several others by taking side trails. We have hiked this trail two times. Both times we went at the beginning of September. It is a nice place to listen to the beat of your heart. It can be that quiet. The lakes have Brook trout eager for a fly, not large, but good, replacing those Mountainhouse meals or other backpacking foods. It is possible to see Bear, Cougar, Deer or maybe a Mountain Goat.

Directions to Hike
Take the highway to Joseph, Oregon, continue south past Wallowa Lake, Check this lake out (breathtaking) at the end of the road past the tram, you will find the trail head. Actually two. Take #1820 to the right. The Forest Service requires a park permit unless you park at least a quarter mile from the trailhead. this can be done.

Contact Information
Forest Service office in Enterprise, Oregon has lots of trail info. they may only be open during the week. This office is up on the left hand side just as you come into Enterprise, next to the big motel. 541 4264978
