Description
A strenuous day hike to guadelupe peak, highest peak in Texas. Beautiful Views and desert life.
The first park of the hike is mostly switchbacks up the side of the mountain, after that, you level out and come around to the west side of the mountain, and then on around south to the base of guadelupe peak. Near the base, there is a footbridge where a cliff drops several hundred feet into Dog canyon. And breathtaking views of the Sierra Diablo, Davis, and Franklin mountains, as well as on up into New Mexico. The hike extends farther west for about another mile to again the start of switchbacks up to the top of Guadelupe peak. Definitly the most grand view in Texas. On a good day, one can easily see into Mexico and Elpaso and out east to the Permian Basin. Outstanding hike, with no problems with trails. Very well maintained. One of the lesser visited National Parks so is not crouded. Excellent Desert Backcountry.

Directions to Hike
Off of US62-180 to the visitor center. Drive up paved road to Pine Springs Campground, about a half mile northwest. There is a Rv park with places for you to park and the trailhead is near the bathrooms on the right.
