Description
Easy to moderate hike with overall elevation drop of about 800 feet at terminus of the hike at Coalpits Wash, which is generally (not always) reliable to have water. This hike begins near entrance at Springdale. No entrance fees turned me onto this hike. You begin leisurely across the sagebrush/pinyon/pine and the unmistakable Southern Utah sands. Several miles on the trail and you arrive atop the ledges of two different washes (Huber first, then Scoggins). These rarely carry water, yet the depths these washes acheive over such a short lateral distance is stunning. It is just before and at the trails confluence with Huber Wash that many petrified wood remnants lie all about. *Sidehike - about 1 mile down Huber Wash to the petrified logjam * requiring ropes * Beyond these washes (mini-canyons) lie undulating hills for several more miles, then you drop into the beauty of Coalpits. Bathe in her waters!

Continue up Coalpits for a side-hike, return the way you came, or continue down Coalpits to the hwy., and about 4 miles East along the hwy. is your car and an adventure lived.

Directions to Hike
I-15 South to Exit 27 and then left at first stop light on the road. Follow St. Rt. 9 about 1 mile outside of Rockville, Utah is left turnoff to Anasazi Plateau homesites. Turn up these switchbacks until you see footprints on a sign; turn off your engine; and turn on and tune in.
