Description
This is a great loop either way you choose. Cascade canyon is a much more gradual assent. from the String Lake parking area you have a beautiful view of the Mountain all the way to lake Solitude. If you choose this direction be sure to look back from time to time the vista can be just as breath taking looking back as forward. either way Lake solitude is a great place for lunch. We did this as a two day hike. I think this was a good choice of direction for a two day. We took our time and took in the views to lake Solitude and they were Spectacular.... The terrain to paintbrush divide is RUGGED both up and down. Worth the effort but strenuous. We Had a Great Camp site that provided a beautiful sunrise over a lake through the canyon (just past Holly lake You'll Have to really look find it). A pine needle base and Rocks all around. It was Perfect!!! and we had time for a relaxed breakfast a nice hike out in the morning. If you are going to do this as a long day hike I think I would do this in the other direction. The climb through paintbrush canyon is much steeper and would be good to do this early in the day and you'll walk right into some great vista's from lake Solitude on and a more gradual decent later in the day. Make sure to look over your shoulder after Hidden falls. Looking at the Mountains at the beginning of this hike just set the table for a backpacking feast!! so seeing them at the end of a long day could be a wonderful dessert. This hike has been so highly rated (and rightfully so) we saw a lot of people. This is not bad. Met a lot of nice people. and a couple of BIG MOOSE. but if remote solitude is what your looking for, the views are beautiful, but there are many people reading great reviews. enjoy a beautiful hike...

Directions to Hike
Go to the NORTH Jenny lake area and String lake parking will be to the right about a 1/4 mile in. trail head is right there over the bridge.. Have your camera ready..
