“I always do a search before a backpacking trip. I found a couple in the Ozarks, but forgot my GPS and information in Ocala.

Now that I ponied up for the premium membership, I am about to go paperless and download the information to Palm Pilot.”

Anyway, yes, I always leave something if I take anything. Sometimes I TNLN and SL(Take Nothing, Leave Nothing) and (Sign Log).

The kids get more out of digging through the cache to see what is in there than I do. I tend to just sign the log if I am by myself.”

“I was just reading on Geocaching.com about a cache very close to my house and a lot of people are commenting about all the rattlesnakes they encounter at the site. I guess locating the cache in a rattlesnake den makes it more of a challenge.”

“I saw one in West By God I want to visit, along one of my favorite hiking trails. There's a rock bench to sit and take in the view, and, oh yes, a geocache.

Yes, they seem to be located on any plot of grass more than a foot wide around the home turf, and rest stops don't quite have the appeal of mountain caches.”

“My daughters don't really like climbing throught the poison ivy and chiggers to find a geocache. Yet, the do enjoy going all over the city to find them.

Now, I would prefer that they like to hike, but I understand they may never enjoy it. However, I am glad they do want to get out of the house, spend a great Spring day geocaching around Memphis. It beats the hell out of watching Disney channel all day.”

Maybe we should place one somewhere at YRSF this weekend. Course it is around a 70 minute drive from where I live. Would that be approved? It would be maybe the 7th one around there. One will be very close to our campsite Sat. night. :-)

Now, I have a cache that is a challenge to find on the Upper Iowa River. I think what a person needs to do -- IF you want people in the boonies -- if place 1 or 2. Gotta make it "worth their while" in total cache count for the area to get them away from civilization. phhhhttt!!!

“We have had several kids caches around here. Just before school there are usually a couple that are on trails near town...they will have school supplies, etc in them. A few suggest that you only take from them as they will be pulled after school starts.”

“Must be pretty sparse hunting in areas where homes are more than 70 miles away.”

“I took the quantum leap. I now generate queries, download the information to the laptop and transfer the coordinates to the the GPS, the data to the Palm Pilot and I am officially "paper free" geocaching from here on out.”

The jeep promotion has lil jeep hotwheel keychains with TB tags on them. They won't be listed to start, they will just show up...and then are supposed to be "moved". Ten bucks says they get found and muggled”

It was meaningful to hit the century mark finding a cache at a WWII memorial site in Gulfport on Memorial Day weekend. Cottonsocks, the kids, my mother and I spent a few minutes there to discuss the sacrifice that was made for us to have what we have.

Even on bad days, I am still free.”

GPS Babel

Occassionally someone will send me a file that I have trouble with and I am looking for a conversion utility. From what I can tell at first look, this appears to be user friendly and robust.”

Sorry, I have been looking at new software and every software salesman uses that phrase. "Robust and feature rich" It has become quite a joke around here.

I found my first GeoCoin today. I had seen some reference to these in logs, but can't find anything on the geocaching.com site in regard to them. Anyone else ever find one? It looks to be unique in that is labled with a name and letters, but I can't find anything that would let me get a reference to it.”

Anyway, went night caching today. Found 3, didn't find 2. One will be an easy find but the area closed at dark. The other was in an awesome park but was too overgrown to find in the dark. Plus my city folk partner fears the woods at night and about crapped himself when I stopped to pee (he thought I was trying to hide from him so he'd get scared). A racoon made a sound and he ran to the car. I assured him over and over there was nothing in the woods in an Ohio Metro Park that was going to get him unless it stood on two legs and was homeless or on crack. We're gonna try to get 7-8 on Thursday and about 15-20 Saturday.”

“Doesn't ohio hiker hang out at the parks? Now that is a scary thought.”

“I had a dude hit my cache the other day and it has solidified my thinking that the bulk of cashers are lazy azzes. It’s along a nice paved bike path and it’s about a mile walk. Well this guy thought that was just too far so he cut straight through yards near the path to get to it easier.
