IM vs. ICQ
I just signed up for IM on yahoo. What's the difference between IM and ICQ? Different acronyms for different companies?

RE: IM vs. ICQ
Basically. They each have their quirks, but at least they don't have advertising like AOL. *ych*

RE: IM vs. ICQ
I use AIM, ICQ, MSN IM, MSN Zone, and yahoo. I like them in the order that I said. There are a few old skewl threads that I started while back about it. Search 365, and ICQ, or Aim. It was along time ago atleast last november.

RE: IM vs. ICQ
ICQ offers a real-time chat feature, that is really great. On the downside, it takes longer to load (for me) and sometimes boots me.

Yahoo IM is great for instant messaging and cutesy faces. It is slower to "talk" but takes up less space on your computer and doesn't >knock on wood< kick you off suddenly.

Unfortunately I have neither these days in my cardboard box. I miss you guys!

Sorry Tea, but AOL IM sux...there aren't features for "busy" or "away" which sometimes leads to hurt feelings. Still, I have it for use "just in case" because afterall I am a junkie.

RE: IM vs. ICQ
AIM doesn't allow you to send messages off line to other users..doesn't have a chat, and limits the # of people you can have on your buddy list.

ICQ has a cool buddy list,"away features", great chat, and CRASHES to dang much.

I like Yahoo best, it has all the cool features and doesn't kick you all the time like ICQ.

Everyone has an opinion and an a$$hole..you know how that goes..

RE: IM vs. ICQ
IM for me. I am so tired of ICQ booting me that I don't even use it. Slasher has it on her PC and when we load Yahoo IM, it has a parasitic program that causes it load up in front of Yahoo IM and it takes longer. We'd like to dump it out of there for that reason, but skinny dip uses it. Does anyone know how to turn off the ICQ thingy (technical term) so that doesn't happen??

RE: IM vs. ICQ
I much prefer ICQ, but all my friends at purdue are on AIM instead. :op
Anyway, you can get rid of the AIM ads, you just have to edit the .dll files a little.
