Snow in the High Country
We got our first snow last night in the high country and in the foothills of Denver and Colorado Springs. It is still falling in some spots. Driving into work this morning I could seee the snow caps on Longs Peak and Mt. Evans. The air is so crisp right now. I have never been so energized by cold weather. This winter is going to be a treat! Anyone else getting any snow yet.

Same here in the Beartooths. The aspen are changing, too. Best time of the season!

Same cold front going to be here in Houston on Sunday, going to drive the high temps down to the mid 80's.

It was 29 degrees at night over this Labor Day weekend at our place near Cooke City, MT. I think it would burn up at 80.

How awesome! I m going to hit the slopes for the first time this winter. Actually I did ski once but it was so bad I don't talk about it. My oldest and I are going to take up snow boarding together. I bet he smokes me on the slopes!

Yeah, we have snow here in Cody too. Not in the nearby mountains, (Heart, Cedar, or Rattlesnake), but Carter is covered to about a third of the way down.

Aero, you have a place in Cooke City? How cool. My wife and I dream of having a place up there. We would prefer the Crandall area, but we would take anything. I am sooo jealous.

Hunting season, here we come. Can't wait for that either. Get it over with early then hit Red Lodge and get our money's worth out of the season passes.

My friend told me this morning that his daughter who lives in Colorado Springs just ran in a marathon on the American Discovery Trail. She finished in 5 hrs. 28 minutes and felt good. Not bad for a someone who had a baby less than a year ago! He said this was the first such marathon and there were only 340 participants.

The freezing level's still around 10,000ft, here on the coast, but they've been getting a bit of snow around the peaks, of Banff etc.

I can hardly wait to get up there, next week! The larch and heather will be turning colours... awesome!! Ski season's just around the corner

Chief, we're about half-way between Cooke City and Silver Gate. It's not a big place, but great to jump off from there. That Crandall area is great too! I'm hoping for a bad (i.e., lot's of snow) winter!

Aero, have you ever done the trail from Chief Joseph Trailhead (I think) to East Rosebud? If not you have to because it is awesome. The Fossil Lakes area was really cool. Like you were on a moonscape. The fishing there was great too. We ended up staying two nights because of rain (24 hours straight).

We just did it this summer from July 22-25. That's the Classic Beartooth trip! Lakes, waterfalls, great scenery. It was pretty leisurely, about 7-8 mi/day. The weather was perfect, no rain and just a few mosquitos. Went in at Chief Joseph and came out at Alpine (East Rosebud). The fishing was pretty good. We fished Dewey Lake and the creek and also Rainbow lake. Didn't fish Fossil tho. My favorite is Aero Lakes! :>) Maybe we should organize a TT hike up there sometime.

RE: Snow in the High Country
Yeah, but would my wife approve? You, me, Biz, and newgirl. Interesting. I suppose I could get a couple of my single friends to go too.

Maybe even some of the Llama Rama ding dongs would come up for it.
