That's a true classic, TD.

And thanks for that Oppenheimer quote, kleetn. I've been looking for that one.

Let's see....

Maybe this is the place to ask this.

Tolkien is credited with "Not all who wander are lost."

But I've seen something similar credited to Shakespeare, anyone know it?

Thanks.

RE: What's your favorite quote?
All I've been able to find is the attribution to Tolkien. I did find some other marvelous things, like:

"When I, sitting, heard the astronomer, where he lectured with such applause in the lecture room,
How soon, unaccountable, I became tired and sick;
Till rising and gliding out, I wander?d off by myself,
In the mystical moist night-air, and from time to time,
Look?d up in perfect silence at the stars.

Walt Whitman (1819?1892),
?When I Heard the Learn?d Astronomer?

Hmm, Puck seems to wander quite a bit. So does Thoreau... but I can locate no other Shakespeare references that fit.

I suppose you might go to Project Gutenberg and ctrl-F on 'wander' through the collected works or something like that if you've got the time? yikes{}

It'd be nice to have everything on CD-ROM and be able to do a global search!

well, that was weird!

Shakespeare just quoted "All that glitters is not gold"

Tolkien used a similar "All that is gold does not glitter" and added "all who wander are not lost"

Long car ride. Old Peter Gabriel.

From Biko:

You can blow out a candle
But you can't blow out a fire
Once the flames begin to catch
The wind will blow it higher

Have always thought the lyrics captured a difficult concept well. That once something is thought, articulated, it is difficult to stuff it back in the box. No amount of oppression or suppression can erase the simple ideas.

Broadly relevant to many ideas although the song is specific to South Africa and freeedom.
