Birkenstocks
I think that Birkenstocks were originally thought up by the likes of Sarabelle and some friends. Mine have a buckle that makes noise, THREE soft leather straps for gentle chewing, and a hard sole for the tougher, more serious chewing. My new puppy seems to think that they are dog shoes.

RE: Birkenstocks
I lost five pairs of shoes, a coffee table, a love seat, numerous pillows and several wooden coasters to puppies. Get yourself some bitter apple spray from the pet store and start hosing everything down with it before it's too late!

OH MY, JOY! Actually, he is crate trained and is not unsupervised. When we are not home, he is in his crate. I only work 4-5 hours a day so it has worked out great for us. The left Birkenstock has been the main target.

RE: Birkenstocks
Torrey tends to get into my half bath and while attempting to drink out of the toilet, her large butt hits the door and it shuts. She always does this while I'm at work and ends up stuck in the bathroom all day. She has chewed and clawed through the door and door frame, demolished my shower curtain, ripped off a towel rack, ate the toilet paper and somehow knocked a picture off the wall. Poor destructive beast. I love her regardless! I am happy to report that she has lost about 5 lbs since I adopted her.

RE: Birkenstocks
Maybe I should invest in some Birks for a new chew toy.

RE: Birkenstocks
Wow. And it's still wearable? When our dog was a pup, if you let let a pair of shoes on the floor and out of sight fo even a minute, they were gone. It was only until you were looking to go somewhere and found the back half of the shoe missing that you realized your mistake. Those terrier jaws just work through leather and rubber like it was buttah! Wait until they round off the corners of your coffee table or turn a drawer of your china cabinet into a pile of splinters!

I like Mephisto sandals. Verrrrry comfy.

My doggie ruined my carpet, my leather chair, broke a window, and chewed the door. He never got my shoes though. I'd give anything if he were still around to chew them up.

Oh, and 3 pairs of pumps. It was the sleeping pad that was almost the end of him.

RE: Birkenstocks
Ours also knocked the bottem panel of our backdoor out. It makes it easier to let the in and out though. Just have to open one door. I thought it was great until Abby started trying to crawl out back solo! We used to keep the dogs in a mud area. Hyper built a gate to keep them there while we were gone. They ate through it! Thank goodness they're out of that stage now!!!!

RE: Birkenstocks
Wow! Some of you have really had a rough time with your pup's chewing phase! I have lost a shoe or two as well, before my dogs trained me to use our closet. LOL!

The cleanest our house has ever been was during the first 6 months of our dogs' lives!

RE: Birkenstocks
Our worst damage came from the cats. A three-cushion sofa had all the decorative piping ripped off the front and the underside ripped out. The one that's left has chewed the back ends off a wooden rocking chair's rockers and broken the slats on the bedroom blinds.

But no shoe chewers. Max Dog does like to eat fabric, such as blankets and blanket binding, if he is stressed out. You can get the pieces back a day later if you really, really, want to repair them.

RE: Birkenstocks
My dog, before the age of two years, destroyed a sofa, antique crystal bowl (knocked it off of a shelf), two stained-glass cabinet doors (broke one by hitting it with the end of a leash he was shaking in his teeth, and the other by knocking a chair into it), a basement water pipe (too hard to explain), a porcelain doll (ate its body, leaving only the head), misc. shoes, and toys. He still has a taste for used Kleenex, wine corks, and wooden items such as clothespins or wood-handled tools, brushes, or cooking utensils.

RE: Birkenstocks
When I was a kid, my sister and I used to fight like mad. I would always end up throwing something at her and usually breaking what I threw or something that I hit while trying to hit her. My poor pets, dogs and cats, always took the blame. :( My parents seemed to go easier on the pets thatn the kids.

RE: Birkenstocks
The two oddest things my pointer ate were... a pac of razor blades that were on our counter during our kitchen remodel. She chewed them but as far as we know she never got cut. Also a box of .357 ammo was on my dresser,it wasnt full. She dragged them/it across the house,I dont know if she ate one or not.Never found any in her mess while doin' "poop patrol".

peeka- too funny!

I guess it just like oats....they're a little cheaper once they've been "processed" by the horse.

Larry Kudlow is yelling for more gov. control over the stock market. For the gov. to reverse many of the free trade ideas that got rid of controls in recent years. Larry, like so many others, love less control until the smarties of the street start hammering the public ,because of lax rules.
Stocks down, gold down and news of more RE losing value at record pace."As goes GM, so goes the country".
