The wilderness clock.
How many nights do you spend in the woods a year? The have to be backpacking nights, not car camping.

RE: The wilderness clock.
Prolly around 30 nights a year these days.
Back in 1995, I logged 32 backpacking trips that year. Most of the weekends not BPing were at least either rock climbing or caving.

BTW, I may only dayhike about once or twice a year.

RE: The wilderness clock.
since I graduated and got a real job? not enough

real jobs suck and are overrated

I did something like 20 backpacking trips (average 3 days each?) in one year back in 1985 (who knows, I threw out my log). I don't know if I'll ever be able to top that again..

I have to ask, Town dawg, I know my spelling is bad, but I'm good with my math, and one overnight each month doesn't add up to 30-40

I'm not up there with you hardcore guys. I have to burn alot of my time with my Scout Troop.
So far this year I have 10 backpacking nights and 15 car camping with day hikes with my troop. Next month will be their first sho nuff backpacking trip.

RE: The wilderness clock.
This year, only 12 nights, but I'll likely get another 12 this fall. Job and family are much bigger responsibility than anyone told me. Or, if they told me, I wasn't listening!

I sleep out in the "woods" behind my house almost every weekend when I have to stay home. I tried it on work nights but it's too depressing to crawl outta the bag and go to work.

RE: The wilderness clock.
damn! i may not have big, quality trips, but i usually get out 3 weekends a month, on average!

i hate staying home on weekends. then again, i live only an hour from the mountains. hell, some folks drive longer than that to get to work! ugh!

RE: The wilderness clock.
My goal is to camp once a month with the family (truck camper) and once a month on a weekend one or two nighter. I probably make about half that, but doing better. My wife notices a distinct improvement in my disposition.

this year, surgeries may have knocked me to about 2.5 per month, but i'd have to think about it.

RE: The wilderness clock.
Not enough. Why?
1. Scout troop
2. Car Camping w above. They'd all be BP if I had my way, but every year we get new ones who have to be taught...sigh.
3. Participate in Daughter's activities (don't EVEN MENTION backpacking... it can't compare with shopping at the mall so she's not interested)
4. General "honey-do" stuff around the house.
5. Work, pays the bills so is just a little important.

Oh yeah... for Rad...I also just live an hour from the mountains, but kids / scouts / house (READ: WIFE), work prevent me from doing what I'd rather.

Having said that, logged about 140 nights out total over last 3 years...

RE: The wilderness clock.
Rad, enjoy it while you can bud. Things change. One of the primary reasons (there were others for sure) I was originally attracted to my wife was her love of the outdoors, she was a hiker, fisherperson, etc... kids, health & age change a lot of stuff.

Yeah Rad, Enjoy it. I've been free like that to go every weekend before. I miss those days. Course I wouldn't give up Susan to go back though.

I'm hoping to get to sneak out about twice a month once it gets cold! Wish me luck.

RE: The wilderness clock.
I've got a Scout troop too so some of mine are car camping due to inexperience of some boys. So far I'm up to 23 but due to other crap coming up i'm missing about 18 more nights.

The good news is I have 14 more planned this year (trying to up that number some more) and they are all backpacking trips.

Oh wait a minute, backpacking only? Then 14 of the 23 are backpacking.
