I am having flashbacks to the Iran hostage crisis LH. Screw complacency, we need to retaliate!

Tea -

I think you should refrain from reporting on any activities by the US military that you see right now. We don't want to unwittingly help our enemies. You should expect a lot of activity for the next couple of days at least.

I doubt they read Trail Talk but still... keep quiet on the phone too, we don't know who we are up against.

I have been watching TV.
Yes. Watching TV.

We only get one station, ABC, but I have been out in the trailer watching this horror.

I am stunned, shocked and angry as hell.

When the dust settles, we should go to war.

I was against Viet Nam.

This is different.

My co-worker's wife got out alive and there are reports that others escaped from as high as the 103rd floor so it's not likely that nearly everyone inside died. I'm sure it's horrific but there will likely be more survivors than you might expect.

I've been trying to conduct a "business as usual" day, but it's difficult - I'm a freakin' mess.

My sympathy to the people of New York City. I stood in awe atop the World Trade Center last December. The WTC has been a significant landmark for many years - it has been a great loss, both literally and symbolically.

I have "slammed" New Yorkers my entire life, but it's always been in a spirit of friendliness. I found New Yorkers to be surprisingly friendly on my visit last year.

This is a very dark moment for ALL Americans...

I can't help but think of this in technological terms..

why weren't those damn jetliners equipped with 'panic buttons' so someone could have been secretly been notified they were hijacked?

The TRACON was not even aware..

I want to go back to bed and start this whole dam day over again. HOLY MARY MOTHER OF GOD what in tarnation is happening to OUR wonderful country.

See what an open door policy and a lack of security gets you. Where did the defense budget go!!!! Where did the airport security go? Is anybody home at the NSA, FBI, CIA...HELLO!!!!!

I think "W'' just found himself a pickle of a battle against terrorism. All out war if you ask me. If those Middle East factions hates us now.......wait till they see what is coming. As a Nation I don't believe it is in our best interest to let this act of cowardism go unresolved. Swab the barrels boys because we're going into uncharted territory in the battle against terrorist.

Tell me to what effect will this have on your opinion of Middle Easterns, here and abroad?

I just don't believe it......

So many unanswered questions. New Yorkers are lucky that the towers fell into themselves instead of on to the bldgs near them. I think it's time to say, things could have been worse, if that seems possible right now.

The news is a bit confusing. I understand the airlines may have known that the planes were hijacked. There was no formal plan of action however about what to do next and of course they had no way of anticipating the disasters. Do we shoot down passenger planes that have been hijacked?

Come on everyone. Whoever has flown before knows we don't have nearly the security we should have at the airports.

Remember the little boy who got on a plane without a ticket and flew to another state? If a little boy could do it WITHOUT any planning, then I think it's highly likely that anyone with any amount of planning could do the same thing.

RE: World Tade Center
I know someone posted here the other day about accidentally flying with a fuel canister or something. We're going to have to demand VERY thorough security at airports. However, an attack could be made any number of other means and it is impossible to protect against them all.

Welcome to the 21st century.

RE: World Tade Center
I posted about my bear canister, Violin. But personal security at Kalispel was VERY tight. This is a small airport and they checked most carry-on bags and personal items very carefully. In fact, I was surprised at the amount of security at such a small airport. We almost thought they would delay the departure time because it took so long to get everyone through. I will never complain about that again.

You've got to believe that the highjackers had weapons on their persons. That's probably why they highjacked planes out of busy airports where business people don't like to be kept waiting for personal searches.

i am not a religious man, but i am spiritual. i am going to the nearest church to pray to god to ask him to watch over all of the victims and provide comfort for their friends and families.

first we mourn and honor our brother americans, then we retaliate. let there be no mercy shown to the miscreants who violate the laws of god.

When Desert Storm was in full swing I worked with a nice guy that moved from Bombay when he was a child. We went to eat lunch one day at a Greek family restaurant, they didn't want to let him in. The owner said (in a heavy accent) that they didn't serve middle eastern people. My friend said, (with no accent) "I'm not from the middle east, I am from India and I am a US citizen". The owner said it made no difference to him. It will be interesting (and probably sad) to see the way people treat each other for the next while.

This time it was airplanes. The next time they may have missiles or biological agents. I say it's time for Congress to get off their butts and fund the development of the missile defense system and have the military come up with a comprehensive plan for biological weapon defense.

I heard the Canadian and Mexican borders are closed. What a friggin' joke. They can't stop illegal aliens or drugs, but they think they can stop terrorists? It's high time to put the military on the borders and seal them shut!

RE: World Tade Center
One of my lab partners in college was Iranian. When the hostages were taken, one of the frats unfurled a "NUKE IRAN" banner. My partner didn't leave his apartment for two weeks out of fear.

I think it is important that we not react with hatred toward any broad group of people. Let the Palestinian children dance in the streets, we can forgive their hatred. Escalating hatred and violence is what has gotten us to this point.

Don't confuse my sentiment with passivism. Once we determine who was responsible, those in charge should pay dearly. I'd join up if needed. But let us not rush into hating innocents.

I have met plenty of people throughout my lifetime through school or work from middle eastern countries: Iran (some of them left by 'climbing over the mountain' and can't go back, legally), Egypt, Saudia Arabia and Isreal..

These people are just like us and came here for the same reasons our relatives did..it is just plain ignorance to hate them
