My vote says, whether or not he is directly responsible (although I'd bet my paycheck that he is), by making such idle and public threats, he is guilty as a " fait accompli." String him up, and anyone who helped him.” 4:26:14 PM 9/11/01 RE: World Tade Center “While I understand the sentiments of those who cry for retaliation, it will do no good. The "problem of terrorism" lies in our human nature. We need to change our hostile, combative tendencies. Easier said than done, since tribalism and internal hostility as a species is genetically based. But change we must, whether through a supreme act of global will, genetic manipulation of our DNA or otherwise, or the end result may be self extinction.” 4:31:38 PM 9/11/01 RE: World Tade Center “Normally I would be right there with you steve hiker. Who knows, when the shock and anger wear off I may be again. I have a son who's only 4 years away from registering for the draft. But right know I just want to make sure that whoever did this is NEVER able to do it to ANYONE EVER again.” 4:40:48 PM 9/11/01 RE: World Tade Center “And make sure that everyone else is too afraid to ever do anything like this.” 4:42:19 PM 9/11/01 RE: World Tade Center “Steve hiker- I disagree, we have the technology to combat this crap politics prevents us from doing so..” 4:46:05 PM 9/11/01 RE: World Tade Center “Forrest and anybody else, Before we kill anybody on general principle, even if he deserves it, we need to find out who is really responsible for the attack. Remember, we thought the same thing for Oklahoma City, and had it not been for McViegh's lead foot... Once we know who really did it, THEN we ANNIHILATE HIS A$$.” 4:50:09 PM 9/11/01 RE: World Tade Center “Thank you. My sentiments exactly.” 4:52:00 PM 9/11/01 RE: World Tade Center “steve hiker, you talk about our inbred genetic hostility. We better follow our instincts on this one or WE won't survive. How do you deal with an amoral group of radicals in a peaceful, rational manner? You don't! They've crossed the line.” 4:57:13 PM 9/11/01 RE: World Tade Center “yeah, steve. let's ignore it, and it'll go away.” 5:04:04 PM 9/11/01 RE: World Tade Center “My girlfriend?s brother was on the 32nd floor of first building hit and when the second plane hit he said it?s time to leave. Like a typical New Yorker, ran downstairs, found the nearest convince store and grabbed a disposable camera and started taking pictures of the buildings coming down. Glad he made it.” 5:06:28 PM 9/11/01 RE: World Tade Center “rad - I'm confused by your reference to an A&M school. Please elaborate if you feel you can.” 5:08:42 PM 9/11/01 RE: World Tade Center “No quarter. No more sitting on our hands. We should have finished what we started with Desert Storm. We have allowed terrorist acts to continue world-wide with nothing but weak and ineffective response from us. By our indicisive actions we have encouraged more terrorism. To maintain our power, we must PROVE we are powerful. Eat, or be eaten. If we do not exact a terrible revenge on those responsible for this nearly incomprehensible tragedy, we will guarantee the loss of our status as the major world power, and compromise the future safety of all our innocent citizens. Where is the President?” 5:10:48 PM 9/11/01 RE: World Tade Center “A total of 6 airplanes have crashed...2 at the Twin Towers, 1 at the Pentagon, 1 near the Pittsburg airport, 1 at Camp David and the last one in the Colorado Mountains. A very frightening and sad day for all humankind. Also, a report of a car bomb going off at a state building.” 5:14:42 PM 9/11/01 RE: World Tade Center “I think A&M refers to A&M Universities (Texas A&M, Oklahoma A&M, Auburn, etc) which are heavy on engineering curricula. Most of my graduate level engineering classes were full of students of Middle Eastern heritage.” 5:15:31 PM 9/11/01 RE: World Tade Center “Terrorists... Nuke 'em! We can rebuild. If we're going to be the world police, let's do it right. You can't fight fair with those who don't fight fair. God will take care of their civilians just as God has taken care of our civilian victims. BASTARDS!!” 5:15:37 PM 9/11/01 RE: World Tade Center “Isreal declares a day of National Mourning tomorrow...but here in our own goddamned country its business as usual. How ironic.” 5:15:54 PM 9/11/01 RE: World Tade Center “I wouldn't call it business as usual, but all the closings are security-related. Surely we can do better for our own.” 5:20:12 PM 9/11/01 RE: World Tade Center “Stanlee, The latest report I gathered was four planes. Two into the WTC, one into the Pentagon(BTW where it hit was in the middle of renovation), and one down in the hills of western Pennsylvania. Two from American Airline and two from another airline(forgot the lane). The car bomb was an incorrect report.” 5:20:13 PM 9/11/01 RE: World Tade Center “Griz Glad he made it too. Trying to find out how some ex-co-workers / friends made out. Seems its going to be awhile before we know who didn't make it. I love it that they tell everyone to evacuate and then give them no way to do it. 2 fellow BS leaders are firefighters there. Hope they are ok. Revenge / Justice will come in time. They think 7 World Trade is going to collapse next.” 5:20:32 PM 9/11/01 RE: World Tade Center “The President is clearly absent His first speech needs to be elaborated on...where is his Dad, when you need him?” 5:21:12 PM 9/11/01 RE: World Tade Center “This country is so immature in its thinking and the President is a perfect example he is a posterchild” 5:22:35 PM 9/11/01 RE: World Tade Center “#7 WTC Just went Its gone” 5:23:07 PM 9/11/01 RE: World Tade Center “Biz, It should be business as usual. They have hurt us but they have not beat us. Tomorrow during business as usual we start figuring out who THEY are so that we can BUST THEIR A$$.” 5:26:14 PM 9/11/01 RE: World Tade Center “Biz, get your head out of your ass. Why, after all that has happened, would we let anyone know where the president is? Others have already said it, it is time to stand not only behind our president, but together as a country. We must support the president and everyone else in this trajic time. p.s. Another building has just collapsed.” 5:26:45 PM 9/11/01 RE: World Tade Center “Rad, Dayhiker, Be real careful with that line of thought. I just got my engineering degree, and for every arab in the program there were 2 latinos, 4 asians, and 4 whites. Maybe we should be more worried about mexico or japan or ourselves. Or am I being paranoid and reactionary??? Don't stereotype, it just hurts everybody. Lynch mobs suck.” 5:34:19 PM 9/11/01 RE: World Tade Center “The president flew to Louisiana then to Nebraska. Ain't no one gonna get a plane CLOSE to that guy...I'll bet F-16s are everywhere around there.” 5:38:15 PM 9/11/01 RE: World Tade Center “I guess we'll see at 9 PM ET..” 5:38:29 PM 9/11/01 RE: World Tade Center “I'm sure he's waiting until they have some facts straight before he weighs in very heavily. It wouldn't be appropriate for the pres to react unprepared. It's just taking so long because this particular one needs more preparation, that's all.” 5:41:41 PM 9/11/01 RE: World Tade Center “I'm not sterotyping. I'm just answering what I thought he was refering to. In undergrad it was 70% white, 10% black, and 20% Indian, Middle Eastern, and Asian. At the graduate level it was 20% American, 20% Indian, 20% Asian, and 40% Middle Eastern. In one class there was myself (white male) and one black male, with everyone else one of the above mentioned groups. These people learn technology in this countries engineering schools and then, for the most part, go home. Phil could elaborate (if able due to school rules) on this much better than me.” 5:43:34 PM 9/11/01 RE: World Tade Center “Leatherneck- Busniss as usual would mean status quo.. Did we kill Saddam when we had the chance? No, I'm not sure any of us is for business as usual, anymore time to raise the status quo, that's what I mean about immaturity” 5:47:48 PM 9/11/01 RE: World Tade Center “Dayhiker, I haven't noticed much in a change of the masters program demographics compared to my classes, but I was undergraduate.” 5:50:18 PM 9/11/01 RE: World Tade Center “Exactly, Chief. Political differences aside, we need a united nation standing behind it's president. This is war and life as we know it is over. It's a very hard thing for all of us - yes, we need to make someone pay, but there will be an additional price for us well. For me personally, the price could be my son, my brother, brothers-in-law, co-workers, and friends. I know it's gonna happen, but I have a hard time screaming for war when I'm not the one who'll be enduring that hell.” 5:57:03 PM 9/11/01 RE: World Tade Center “Yay - exposions in Afganistan!” 6:05:56 PM 9/11/01 RE: World Tade Center “Retaliation is appropriate, but will not solve anything. The cycle of retribution will never end until we change our fundamental, hostile nature as a species. We have to look beyond the shortsighted goal of who to hold responsible.” 6:06:45 PM 9/11/01 RE: World Tade Center “Explosions lighting up Kabul Afghanistan, missles across the city.” 6:12:01 PM 9/11/01 RE: World Tade Center “Steve, look beyond to what?” 6:12:24 PM 9/11/01 RE: World Tade Center “Rad- where the hell are you? and why aren't you elaborating on your A&M statement? so other countries send all their smart students here..aren't you one of them? Cuban” 6:15:09 PM 9/11/01 RE: World Tade Center “Marker, The part of the pentagon that was it was not under construction. Yes it was arrigonaly thought so, but the plane hit the National defence area of the pentigon. Killing many Mirians and Navy people” 6:20:25 PM 9/11/01 RE: World Tade Center “Tea, your spelling is so bad I'm not sure I can interpret what you were trying to say. Can you see why your education is important? You sound like an illiterate. "Killing many "mirians"...do you mean Marines? Get it together, bro! Too many people letting you slide are doing a disservice to YOU!” 6:29:51 PM 9/11/01 RE: World Tade Center “biz, chief is right, get your head out of your ass. markar, dayhiker was onto it. it was in response to that idiotic question that everyone is asking... "where would a terrorist possibly learn to fly a plane?" it's not saying that the middle easterners are terrorists, it's saying that there is an easy way for them to get excellent training. and.... don't you EVER play that FUCKING race card, with me, again.” 6:31:34 PM 9/11/01 RE: World Tade Center “I'm glad you elaborated rad. If the terrorists piloted the planes, they were obviously very well trained. There are other places to learn to fly. Many states that support terrorism against us have air forces, no?” 6:36:50 PM 9/11/01 RE: World Tade Center “Well guys, tune into CNN alot of scary stuff going on. Think I 'm leaving tonight for Canada” 6:39:52 PM 9/11/01 RE: World Tade Center “New scary stuff?” 6:41:50 PM 9/11/01 RE: World Tade Center “wow, when you're not html'ing us to death, you're quite likeable. what i really meant, though, is that they were probably even trained in the united states.” 6:44:14 PM 9/11/01 RE: World Tade Center “yeah new The warships, security at the nuclear plants, bombing/fires in afganistan. And, the world trade centers were built with asbeos.” 6:48:57 PM 9/11/01 RE: World Tade Center “"Retaliation is appropriate, but will not solve anything. The cycle of retribution will never end until we change our fundamental, hostile nature as a species." So, steve hiker, what do you propose that we as a nation should do? Continue to tolerate those governments who wink at terrorists? My suggestion is that we bomb those governments into oblivion, in order to send them a message that we will absolutely not tolerate this type of aggression on our home turf. Do you think that we should enroll them all in sensitivity training seminars?” 6:56:42 PM 9/11/01 RE: World Tade Center “US government is denying responsibility for the Kabul attack. Nic Robertson says the Northern Alliance does have long-range missiles capable of hitting Kabul, although this sort of attack hasn't happened before. Then again, the leader of the Northern Alliance was assassinated a couple of days ago.” 7:01:16 PM 9/11/01 RE: World Tade Center “Given that we are saddled with Bush as a leader, I suppose we have to stand behind him in this crisis. I would be a whole lot more enthusiastic about it if it weren't for the fact that in previous analogous crises (the Cole, the Nairobi bombing, etc.) a lot of Republicans used the occasion to take potshots at Clinton; and the fact that Hatch has been all over TV today trying to blame Clinton for this one. I guess the whole standing-behind-our-president-in-a-crisis thing is a one-way street.” 7:07:20 PM 9/11/01 RE: World Tade Center “What a horrible day! A friend of mine came over around 9AM and instead of saying hi, he went straight for the TV. He had heard about the plane crash on the radio. As we watched, we saw the second plane crash into the 2nd tower. He was so grim, because his wife works in Manhatten and was in the WTC when it was bombed in 1993. She had to find her way down 50 flights in the dark and smoke. ALthough she refused to work there again, she still had many friends and co-workers in the upper floors of the building. As it was, she was in midtown, and still has not gotten home yet. Families all over are freaking out because the phones are mostly down or clogged. Many of my friends' husbands or wives travel everyday, and people were picking up their kids from school. They wanted to be together if they got word of tragedy, due to the crashes and hijackings. Several of my relatives were vacationing in Canada, and I guess they will be there for a while. Many companies in the area offered to employees that they could leave if they wanted. My PTA meeting was cancelled, so my husband decided that it was a good opportunity to go golfing. I guess my tone of voice convinced him that he should skip that. So he's out tarring the driveway. I wish I could forget all this and be more productive and practical, like he is. I'm so upset.” 7:13:23 PM 9/11/01 RE: World Tade Center “OmaHiker, go back and read my posts. Carefully. Retaliation is appropriate, but will not solve anything. The cycle of retribution will never end until we change our fundamental, hostile nature as a species.” 7:18:59 PM 9/11/01 Jump to Page << prev
