My sister owns two gas stations. People were waiting 45 minutes for gas. I heard rumour that 100 miles down the road the gas prices were raised to $4/gallon. My sister had to close the gas stations early.”

Things will be crazy at work today. We also sell home heating oil. The phones have been busy with the cold weather but now after the panic at the pumps, I'm certain there will be more panic for heating oil.

For many people, I imagine it is difficult not to panic,not to feel complete helplessness. I was sad, reading one of the threads here, that was filled with irrational anger and misdirected hatred. Are we all going to start kicking the dog, because we had a hard day at work now?

“The oil companies froze wholesale prices this morning BY THEMSELVES. The companies aren't gouging anyone. Like Rad said those few that are doing it are small time operators.

“A freind of mine is in the C-store business here in Cody. He said last night that they have to go to Cheyenne now to get their gas and the refinery raised the rice 0.20/gallon and they can only get a three day call.

There are refineries way closer (Billings, MT, Casper, etc). Apparently they are shipping there gas and heating oil back east. Probably getting more $ for it. Subsequently, our prices go up because of it.”

I'd like to know where you got your information. My sister got her scheduled shipment of oil today and they won't tell her how much they are charging her for it. She has area businesses, local police and ambulances and community members needing this oil. She leaves the price the same and the price goes up at the transfer center and my sister loses.

She's been in tears half the day. People are calling her up and threatening her. Customers are screaming at her because they want product NOW.

Don't accuse all small store owners because of a few bad apples. Oil companies have been focking with us all year! They raised the price just before Labor Day weekend and then they lowered them afterward. Makes it look like the gas stations are the culprit. They deliver a shipment on Friday and don't give you an invoice until Monday. Meanwhile you've sold product below cost for two days. Do you people really think that gas sits in those station tanks THAT long?? Americans use LOTS of gas.

So, until you KNOW what you're saying is fact, you can stop pointing your fingers.

Heard this morning that one station was in Tipton, a small town maybe 20 miles off I-80. Hmmmmmm..., I remember back in 81 or 82-ish, paying my first buck a gallon gas there. No, it's not a place I normally go. But isn't that strange??!”

“Nobody likes to admit this, but the fact is, gas is a bargain. Actually, it's a steal.

The DOD spends something like $70 billion dollars a year defending the world's oil supplies, and not a dime of that is included in the price at the pump.

Here we are debating whether we can afford a security force to protect airline passengers, and yet our government has had no problem running a national security force to protect "our" oil. If the price of gas included the cost of this protection, I bet it would easily double.

We're willing to pay $8.00 a gallon for bottled water. But $4.00 gas is outrageous?

If the automakers improved car and truck mileage by 10% we wouldn't have to protect ANY middle eastern oil fields.”
