Buddha Bear thinks opinion polls = facts LOL @ Buddha Bear!” 4:24:38 PM 8/12/05 “unleaded will hit $3 for economy grade by labor day....you heard it here first.” 5:12:52 PM 8/12/05 “We have it GREAT! England pays 3 times that! In some countries most people are so poor they can't affort cars. It's great being an American where we don't have such hardships.” 5:20:52 PM 8/12/05 “My wife and I are thinking of getting a new car soon. Anybody got one of these? ![]() I think it might do well.” 5:25:44 PM 8/12/05 “It's 14 in the city ... ”5:27:09 PM 8/12/05 “18 on the highway ... ”5:27:37 PM 8/12/05 “It's great being an American where we don't have such hardships.” Sarge 5:20:52 PM 8/12/05 this statement made you more of a troll than any other post you have made. Either that or you have no concept of what hardships are. Off to the Titans game..wooohoo it is football time” 6:39:38 PM 8/12/05 “You'd be better off getting a old 70's model F150 like Cactus Ed's than one of those new fangled things. They're kinda sissy like, if you ask me. Much too comfortable. I just don't see how a real man could drive something like that.” 7:15:06 PM 8/12/05 “LOL! Ewker. You're kidding, right? I have no idea of what hardships are? Give me a break. My wife's parents, both doctors, raise rabbits for food. Not for entertainment purposes, but because they have to. They don't have a phone, or the internet, or an automobile. They both work 2 jobs requiring doctorates (her dad has more than one doctorate) and they make the equivalent of less than $200 a month. And no, they don't live in America. I know people in China who have a bowl of rotten apples in their house for food. That's it. Just a bowl of rotten apples. If you come over as a guest, they'll graciously offer you some. Enjoy the Titans football game. "Woohoo". You ungrateful sack of [edit] ... By the way, how ya getting there? You walking?” 9:54:09 PM 8/12/05 “karma - I'll get a 70's model F150 and wear my wife beater too, how's that? Better stick old confederate in the back window too and get one of those pissing stickers.” 9:55:37 PM 8/12/05 “im delivering pizza again while im in school. i drive a ranger, it gets avg of 20 mpg. i fill up about 2 times a week, 15 gallons each time. for every 10 cents gas goes up it costs me 12 dollars a month. it doesn't sound that bad, but gas has gone up over a dollar in like a year. that's $120 a month. also my tips have gone steadily down in the past 6 months. is it because of gas? i don't know, but it's puttin the squeeze on me. i paid 2.58 today. im pretty sure that's the most i've ever paid. it was down to like 2.01 a very short time ago. last edited: 8/12/05 11:27:00 PM” 11:20:01 PM 8/12/05 “I am no expert on this, but I've read some articles that suggest Americans are changing their behavior a bit because of this. Apparently, Walmart is seeing some flatness in sales as poorer Americans reduce discretionary spending to pay for higher gas. It costs me about $40 to fill up my Buick. It used to cost about $30 when prices were below $2. I fill up every two weeks. 26 fill-ups times $10 is $260. To remedy this situation, I called Sprint to drop one of our two cell phones. They offered a different plan that cut our monthly costs from $80 to $50 for basically no change in our phone usage. That's a savings of $360 over the next year just for a phone call demanding a lower price. I don't think that car purchases and gas usage is really the best place to watch for the effect of high gas prices. It's probably buried in sales figures for discretionary spending. I also think it would be interesting to see how much state governments are making on this increase. It seems logical that they are pulling in double the amount of tax revenue as before since the price is now about double.” 11:27:00 PM 8/12/05 “Apparently, these states have a sales tax on gas: California, Georgia, Hawaii, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, and New York. I found a site that said the increase from 1.90 per gallon to 2.30 per gallon increased California gas tax collection by about half a billion dollars. It would seem that they are approaching another half billion with the current increase. I'll bet that Schwarzenegger is secretly cheering the gas price increases.” 11:44:10 PM 8/12/05 ““karma - I'll get a 70's model F150 and wear my wife beater too, how's that? Better stick old confederate in the back window too and get one of those pissing stickers.” _______________ That's more like it, Sarge. You'll also need a gun rack, "Forget Hell" decal, KC highlighters and glasspacks.” 9:28:40 AM 8/13/05 “Nice truck Sarge! I would take it now over the gas guzzling Jeep Wrangler I have now.” 9:34:01 AM 8/13/05 “this will get those wells started in the arctic and kansas” 1:26:44 PM 8/13/05 “$2,65 in my area tonite.” 8:30:52 PM 8/13/05 “I live close to work and do ride my bike on most days. One of the few criteria I had for my most recent car purchase was mileage. I currently work in an industry that doesn't give raises, like... ever. My previous job, in corporate America, did give out raises. But not annually. And, they were certainly not consistent w/ inflation. It's not as simple as "get a job that pays better" since I'm in school full time and there are only a few jobs that can work around that schedule like this one. If I found a job that paid better, it would be too far to safely get to work and back by bike and I would end up making up the difference in pay by spending it on gas. Public transportation is not an option where I currently live because the closest bus stop is many miles away. Miles that do not have bike paths and the like. In a week, I'll begin to work full time, for free. In fact, I'll be paying someone else (the university) so I can work for free. It's the only way I can graduate. And, the job and the university is not w/in bike riding distance to my home. "Get a better paying job" doesn't work in this situation... unless I want to choose b/w a degree and affording gas. It's tough. But, I'll get through it. I'll pay off my debt for years. But, in the meantime, I may complain about gas prices here and there. And, I don't need ppl like Sarge telling me that I don't have room to complain.” 9:15:39 AM 8/14/05 “Well tarabull, sounds like you have plenty of excuses and complaints lined up.” 9:19:34 AM 8/14/05 “How do you find your Subaru on gas Tara? I'm trying to talk the wife into a four wheel drive car/wagon than a big SUV. I had checked out the Subarus but the milage didn't seem to be as good as I had hoped. I'd love to have one of the Imprezia WRX's but that would kind of defeat the purpose of gas milage wouldn't it? LOL! ”9:21:27 AM 8/14/05 “Call it whatever you like, hon. (can't believe that was the best you had. you're losing your touch)” 9:22:40 AM 8/14/05 “The best I had? I wasn't trying to win a battle of words tarabull. I'm serious. You sound like you have plenty of excuses lined up to justify your complaints. You're a perfect candidate for welfare someday on the track you're taking. All you need is the will and the desire to complain about having to make an effort to support yourself - and - always complain that you don't have enough in life. You should be on public assistance by the time you're 30.” 9:24:50 AM 8/14/05 “On the e-way, I get about 27mpg. I don't drive enough locally to really get a good read on the mileage. The mileage could be even better but I have one thing left to fix on that car before I get there.” 9:25:49 AM 8/14/05 “PS - Plenty of people in this world WALK many miles to work and to school. You don't need a red carpet bike path leading to your classroom. last edited: 8/14/05 9:28:25 AM” 9:27:28 AM 8/14/05 “LMAO I'm over 30 but ppl do tell me I look young for my age. Thanks :-) Don't you btch when ppl twist your words?? I don't recall complaining about having to support myself. It was a choice I made. I do it willingly and am proud of myself for what I've accomplished so far and for what I'm about to accomplish. And, I am happy and fulfilled in life. I just think gas prices suck. And, they do. And, all the "we have it better than they do" and "inflation" arguments you come up w/ don't change that. wrt to your last statement... I am physically capable of biking/walking to the classroom It's just not SAFE. Sorry, I value my life. Man, why do I let myself get sucked in to his immature behavior? lol last edited: 8/14/05 9:40:54 AM” 9:39:20 AM 8/14/05 ““On the e-way, I get about 27mpg. I don't drive enough locally to really get a good read on the mileage. The mileage could be even better but I have one thing left to fix on that car before I get there.” Thanks Tara. The best I can get out of my Jeep is 19 on the highway. Mucho el sucko! Good luck with the new job. I'm sure the satisfaction you get from it will more than make up for any lack of funds you left at your other job. :)” 9:39:32 AM 8/14/05 “Thanks Nigal. In all honesty, tho, I quit my good-paying job, not so I could go back to school and feel satisfied and all that crap, but so I would have something to complain about. And, it worked. I feel better already.” 9:43:38 AM 8/14/05 “tara - Yeah, now that I looked at your picture I see I erred. Thanks for the correction. I don't recall complaining about having to support myself. It was a choice I made. I didn't say you complained about having to support yourself. You're complaining about gas prices and having to pay them. Man, why do I let myself get sucked in to his immature behavior? It's natural for some people to think the world revolves around them and therefore they need to be given things like cheap gas because they think they earned it somehow when they didn't. Some people just never snap out of that "it's all about me" mentality, and those people often end up on public assistance. It's not too late to stop acting immature and start facing reality. Life doesn't revolve around you and gas prices are very inexpensive here in the good 'ole US of A. You're very lucky to live here and only be paying the prices that you are. Someday you'll mature and realize that (hopefully, for tax-payers sake). last edited: 8/14/05 9:44:53 AM” 9:44:25 AM 8/14/05 “Back in March in Amsterdam they were paying an average $6.48 US/gallon for regular gasoline.” 9:52:43 AM 8/14/05 “lol Thank you for your input. I can tell by your post that you really have me pegged.” 9:54:32 AM 8/14/05 “Yeah, but they pay less for marijuana, so it all evens out in the long run. :-P” 9:55:09 AM 8/14/05 “Anybody paying $6.48/gallon for their gas? California? Michigan? Anybody?” 9:55:11 AM 8/14/05 “Thank you for your input. I can tell by your post that you really have me pegged. Sarcasm and denial were expected. Most people who have the "public assistance" mindset are in denial about it. They complain about having to pay for things, and then when you call them on it they're like "Oh, I'm not complaining. I'm just say'n." ... Whatever that means. I know, you're not complaining about it, and you're not blaming anybody for your economic situation ... you're just "say'n".” 10:02:45 AM 8/14/05 ““Thanks Nigal. In all honesty, tho, I quit my good-paying job, not so I could go back to school and feel satisfied and all that crap, but so I would have something to complain about. And, it worked. I feel better already.” Slacker! LOL! Don't worry Tbull. Those of us who actually know you know where you're coming from and where you're going. For anyone to say "Get a better job" is over simplifying things and does not take into account the human conditions of life and how varied each and every one of us is. Besides, life is not meassured in dollars and cents. It's messured in moments and memories.” 10:33:12 AM 8/14/05 “We make choices in life. If one chooses to go to school instead of getting a better job, yes, that is a human condition that affects our ability to pay for goods and services. With that comes the responsibility to acknowledge it's a choice that we made and not to complain about it. You have nobody to blame but yourself when you make those kinds of life choices.” 10:53:31 AM 8/14/05 “Of course, it's easier for some people to blame others for their self-inflicted "problems".” 10:54:21 AM 8/14/05 “Thanks, Nigal. It's OK, anyway. I'm having fun... I'm really not worried what someone like Sarge thinks.” 11:11:19 AM 8/14/05 “Nobody else is, either, tara. Have fun all you want.” 11:14:20 AM 8/14/05 “Enjoy the Titans football game. "Woohoo". You ungrateful sack of [edit] ... By the way, how ya getting there? You walking?” Sarge 9:54:09 PM 8/12/05 nice comment from a so called Christian...your about as Christian as a 3.00 bill. btw we car pooled to the game...does that meet with your approval. off to do things other than sit on the computer waiting to disagree with them” 12:43:51 PM 8/14/05 “Yeah tarabull, have "fun" griping and complaining. It's good to surround yourself with people who support your complaining too, like Geobeet. He says "go for it!". Ewker - Make this about me if it's easier for you. The fact is, you have it good, yet you complain. That's the bottom line. You said something about me not knowing what sacrifice is, right? No retraction on that? Didn't think so. I'm glad that you were willing to "sacrifice" by car pooling. Maybe if the prices drop 50 cents you'll all get to drive separately next time so you won't have to endure such hardships.” 12:55:34 PM 8/14/05 “sarge is a massive, bottomless douchebag.” 1:19:40 PM 8/14/05 “Buddha, I've received several emails from people who know you personally who have said worse things about you. Considering that, I feel honored that you feel that way. last edited: 8/14/05 1:32:55 PM” 1:32:06 PM 8/14/05 “I think I know what Tara needs. She needs to find a good evangelical church. God bestows his blessings on believers. Show me a wealthy man and I'll show you a strong Christian. The poor are simply not believing hard enough. Right? Or is it just that sometimes bad things happen to good people? No. That can't be. Can it?” 9:47:37 PM 8/14/05 “it cost me almost $30 to get 11 gallons of gas today. Outrage!!!!” 9:56:49 PM 8/14/05 “sarge, again you fail to read. I never said anything about sacrifice nor did you. So your in-laws have a rough life but they are not alone. There are Americans who have it as bad or even worse. To bad you can't recongize that. Oh, thats right they just need to get a better job or get a promotion. Glad to see your wearing those rose colored glasses again.” 10:06:48 PM 8/14/05 Look on the positive side “I haven't been paying a lot of attention to this post so maybe this has been raised already, but I haven't seen it. There are a number of possible positives to high fuel prices, if we choose to look at it that way. Maybe Americans will finally realize that we need to seriously consider mass-transit options & take the bus / subway / lightrail, etc., where possible. Maybe we should actually consider the ramifications of "urban sprawl" when we do community planning. The list goes on & on. And then we should also remember that Londoners, as an example, currently pay the equivalent of about $9.00 / gallon... are we just spoiled whiners as much of the world believes? Oh, and by the way... we would all be in much better shape if we walked or rode our bicycles insted of driving that mile or so to the store. And By The Way # 2... the environment would sure be a lot better if we burned less fuel...more reasons to take mass-transit or walk / bicycle! Let the flames begin :(” 10:25:58 PM 8/14/05 “They also need to believe in Jesus, Ewker. There is a link between belief/tithing and the wealth that one earns in the world. It is much easier to accept poverty in the world when one understands that it is simply the result of unbelief OR at least the lack of acceptance of Health Savings Accounts. Poverty is a justifiable screwing by God.” 10:26:24 PM 8/14/05 Jump to Page << prev
