Any one ever think that OPEC is retaliating our involvement in Iraq? Sure you could kill our soldiers, but if you really want to hurt this country, attack our wallets.

Cohersion eh? I was just stating what Dateline said, I'm saying it was not propaganda. I NEVER buy from Mobil in Upstate they are one of the "Tube of Lube" (btw Rotflmao @ that) companies. I buy all my gas from Hess only....
Your right the Lube companies (Pun intended) are to powerful. Dubya is one of them too!

"demand,OPEC should have cut oil production the last 2 years...."

Sorry.....should read "demand,OPEC should NOT have....."

`Zac - That would be too coincidental. I don't think they really dig Iraq and Saddam. Plus, they're having the Bush family ver for a Memorial Day BBQ. :)

snafie - Did you mean "collusion"?

Fact be known that when the price of gas has went up before, past Presidents released some of the reserve and switched a little bit of hte burden to the Gubment, who would have to replenish the supply at higher rates, but the Gov would take that hit.

There is a reason Fair May La Bush failed as an oil man. We're seeing this now.

Is it November yet!!?

LOL
yep brain fart there... still early yet...
I did not like Clinton and have always voted Rep. I don't know how I will vote come November. I just know I don't like the "global economy" and our jobs are leaving the country. Our costs are going up and our wages are going down (if you have a job) We are spending billions to help other countries, or to go to war with them, while we have education problems, starving, homeless and other troubles of our own....
the Gas situation is just one bite out of the whole sh1t sandwhich. I'm not being totally negative about it. I do count my blessings that we have it as good as we do, but we are the leaders in the free world, I think? Actually I think Japan has it purdy good too...

BTW, why are milk prices going up so high?
Indiana John

because of the increase in gas and desiel. When transportation costs go up, you pay more.

It all comes back to us. Until we, the people, do something about it, get used to it.

What do you guys think about cutting out the middle man on a lot of things?

I heard a segment on NPR on how a lot of people are going back to organic foods and local markets that is reviving the need for the small farmer that doesn't have to compete with the big markets.

I personally do a little of this. I buy farm fresh eggs from a girl here at work for $.75 a dozen. I get a lot of my produce in the summer from local farm markets and buy meats from local butcher shop that buys direct from local farmers.

I'm not saying this is the way to go, or pushing it on anyone, just curious about your thoughts on this.

I personally like to see my dollars, (at least some) stay local.

Several factors are causing higher milk prices in 2004; cow numbers have declined, fewer dairy farms obtained financing to expand, and replacement heifers will be expensive.
Also:
Milk per cow is likely to increase less than 2 percent through July, which is below the long-term trend. With replacements expensive and in short supply, more producers will hold on to lower producing cows.

feed prices are higher too, which leads to less incentive to feed for more production.

I'm with ya dude!!!
Cut all the Conglomerates (sp?) as much as possible. In Upstate NY we havce tons of local places especially in my town! We even have the carts with the goods on them and a cash box with a slot for the $$$. I do and can buy, meat at a local butcher, corn, beans, peas, lots of fruits, Etc...We have a local small grocery store that also provides local farmers produce.... I may pay a few dollars more now, but I feel better knowing the money goes to my neighbor rather then some Greedy CEO's pocket.
If we all did it and and stuck to it for a long time it would help I'm sure.
It is well known on how conglomerates buy a failing farm and give the farmer his hiuse and a few acres have him run the farm at a yearly salary, then the company takes the produce and jacks it up!
The Farmers have and always will be the Backbone to our contry. The other countries can have the oil we have the food... I can live alot longer on food then oil...

This is something that I have been reading of late concerning Parmalat and the New York milk situation. The effort to head this off has been spearheaded by Senator Schumer locally. Not sure if this has national significance, but it been a local issue with milk prices here in New York:

I work with a couple guys who bike all winter- they've got little studded bike tires. We made some studded tires once by shoving carpet tacks throught he tire from the inside out through the knobbies. It worked pretty well. You really only need them on the front tires and use them for cornering, so you angle them outward a bit.

I've Got An Answer...
I'm having a 550gal above-ground storage tank placed beside my driveway.

And I'm having it filled...at $1.25/gal with unleaded.

I have a question for anyone who might have an answer:

If a number of refining companies and oil conglomerates were to use the same computer formula for determining optimum output to maximize profit, would this be considered price fixing?
