Has America gone nuts?” 4:53:23 PM 9/11/01 RE: Sky High Gasoline “i heard about this, but didn't see a bit of it on the way home. panic is bullsh!t.” 4:56:55 PM 9/11/01 RE: Sky High Gasoline “You are right. These attacks most likely were caused by just a couple hundred people. I got folks at work wanting to nuke the mideast. Crazy.” 5:07:06 PM 9/11/01 RE: Sky High Gasoline “It was my first thought too, bacpac....nuke the mideast, especially after hearing about the celebration by the Palestinians. Calmer heads will prevail. I do think the perpetrators will rue the day they awoke the sleeping giant. Never underestimate the resolve of this great country.” 5:19:59 PM 9/11/01 RE: Sky High Gasoline “kleetn, Yeah right. Are you suggesting we go back to the Peace Tables?? This great country better stand up and kick some terrorist butt!” 5:24:01 PM 9/11/01 RE: Sky High Gasoline “I will personally help lay the blacktop over the Middle East after we bomb it.” 5:24:35 PM 9/11/01 RE: Sky High Gasoline “Sunshine, I am suggesting you go back and reread my post.” 5:32:44 PM 9/11/01 RE: Sky High Gasoline “How ironic isn't it? That we blow up the countires that supply the majority of the worlds oil. Don't interpret this as a support for the middle east terrorist mentality, because I don't. Just making a valid point, not favorable, just valid.” 6:11:42 PM 9/11/01 RE: Sky High Gasoline “Thanks, Kleetn. I did. My sister owns two gas stations. People were waiting 45 minutes for gas. I heard rumour that 100 miles down the road the gas prices were raised to $4/gallon. My sister had to close the gas stations early.” 9:45:30 PM 9/11/01 RE: Sky High Gasoline “I just heard a report that gas was up to five bucks a gallon near New York. Now, if that's true, let's see the gas companies try to deny they are gouging the public in a time of crisis. Perhaps we ought to nuke Exxon, etal, first, then go nuke the countries where the gas comes from. This is typical. Conglomerites cashing in on tragedy.” 10:08:26 PM 9/11/01 RE: Sky High Gasoline “$7 per gallon in Vermillion, Ohio. Isn't profiteering a federal offense?” 10:12:25 PM 9/11/01 RE: Sky High Gasoline “On the way home from class (930pm) there were gas lines into the streets 20 cars long. I stopped and filled up,$1.89. I then went home and filled my jeep. Am I over reacting, I hope so.” 10:17:34 PM 9/11/01 RE: Sky High Gasoline “$1.89 is what regular gas normally costs up here. I dread seeing what it's gonna' cost tomorrow.” 10:38:01 PM 9/11/01 RE: Sky High Gasoline “This puts a damper on my road trips!” 10:41:20 PM 9/11/01 RE: Sky High Gasoline “How about a temp. gas price freeze.” 10:45:55 PM 9/11/01 RE: Sky High Gasoline “My husband said we had no wholesale increase in gas prices today.” 11:22:11 PM 9/11/01 RE: Sky High Gasoline “Nothing like taking advantage of a crisis. Keep your receipts. There is talk of a class action law suit against price gougers. I guess the oil companies have to make hay while the tears flow.” 11:32:59 PM 9/11/01 RE: Sky High Gasoline “Gas is the least of our worries, oil is used to make so many products these days...polyesters, synthetics, plastics Price of a lot of things is gonna rise when oil prices rise.” 11:51:52 PM 9/11/01 RE: Sky High Gasoline “I'm thinking that prices will spike, then drop, amidst cries of gouging and profiteering. I think I'm going to be walking or cycling a lot of places for the next couple weeks. Oh, well, I needed new walking shoes anyway. I may be an optimist, but right now it's a survival skill.” 2:07:04 AM 9/12/01 RE: Sky High Gasoline “One of the major oil companies today said there was no crisis and prices hadn't changed. They encouraged "business as usual". I remember the gas lines and rationing in 1974 and 1979. Some gas station owners got kind of cocky and seemed to take advantage of the situation. After it was all over many people remembered them and it hurt their business.” 2:34:40 AM 9/12/01 RE: Sky High Gasoline “Talked to my sister. There was a $.20/gal increase yesterday just before the rush hit. We were having a price war up here. We were selling gas for $1.69/gal when all the other local areas were $1.89/gal. Also, those rumours of $4/gal were just that, rumours. At least in my area. Things will be crazy at work today. We also sell home heating oil. The phones have been busy with the cold weather but now after the panic at the pumps, I'm certain there will be more panic for heating oil. I am still angry today but yesterday I was livid. However, there is something about seeing an entire community panicing at the gas pumps that sobers you very quickly. GO RED, WHITE AND BLUE!!!” 7:46:57 AM 9/12/01 RE: Sky High Gasoline “"However, there is something about seeing an entire community panicing at the gas pumps that sobers you very quickly." Good point, Sunny. It certainly helps to keep perspective. For many people, I imagine it is difficult not to panic, not to feel complete helplessness. I was sad, reading one of the threads here, that was filled with irrational anger and misdirected hatred. Are we all going to start kicking the dog, because we had a hard day at work now? Today is a new day. It is time to mourn for what we have lost and time to stand together in this.” 7:59:41 AM 9/12/01 RE: Sky High Gasoline “I guess I made the right choice last night to pass up on the gas panic(and I was down to 1/4 tank). I had to buy ultra 94 for 2.04 this morning 'cause the pepole cased a shorage by filling up all at once. I got a little zoom zoom going on though today!” 8:02:47 AM 9/12/01 RE: Sky High Gasoline “No gas price inrregularities in my neighborhood. Although, the stations were busier than normal.” 8:50:10 AM 9/12/01 RE: Sky High Gasoline “Gas Station around the corner from me: regular is still at 1.31 per gallon. No signs of gouging noted at other stations either.” 8:52:22 AM 9/12/01 RE: Sky High Gasoline “Price gouging is a federal offense. If you see it report it. We had some joker here jump his prices by $2 a gallon. His but is in jail now.” 8:55:44 AM 9/12/01 RE: Sky High Gasoline “i heard that on the news. we're supposed to report it to local authorities.” 9:00:07 AM 9/12/01 RE: Sky High Gasoline “President Bush seems reluctant to reign in oil companies rush to profit on the peoples misfortunes.” 9:01:06 AM 9/12/01 RE: Sky High Gasoline “it's mostly local joints. getting in on the skimming action.” 9:12:01 AM 9/12/01 RE: Sky High Gasoline “The oil companies froze wholesale prices this morning BY THEMSELVES. The companies aren't gouging anyone. Like Rad said those few that are doing it are small time operators. Gas stations are franchises.” 9:22:28 AM 9/12/01 RE: Sky High Gasoline “Thanks for the info. I formed my opinion from past practices.” 9:39:23 AM 9/12/01 RE: Sky High Gasoline “A freind of mine is in the C-store business here in Cody. He said last night that they have to go to Cheyenne now to get their gas and the refinery raised the rice 0.20/gallon and they can only get a three day call. There are refineries way closer (Billings, MT, Casper, etc). Apparently they are shipping there gas and heating oil back east. Probably getting more $ for it. Subsequently, our prices go up because of it.” 10:13:19 AM 9/12/01 RE: Sky High Gasoline “who would actually PAY $4 a gallon? i'd be willing to use a whole tank of gas, that i had, to go get it for a normal price.” 10:17:30 AM 9/12/01 RE: Sky High Gasoline “Prices were normal here yesterday at $1.37. Pumps may have been a little busier than normal, but it was nothing outrageous.” 10:58:31 AM 9/12/01 RE: Sky High Gasoline “They're starting the process for prosecuting those gas companies practicing price gouging here in Kentucky. That has got to qualify as sedition under circumstances such as these.” 12:15:06 PM 9/12/01 RE: Sky High Gasoline “Normal here $1.52/gallon” 12:58:53 PM 9/12/01 RE: Sky High Gasoline “In middle TN its $1.45 like the day before” 12:59:27 PM 9/12/01 RE: Sky High Gasoline “Normal here in Cody, WY at $1.76 per gallon. Can hardly wait for the touristas to go home so prices will drop again.” 5:45:19 PM 9/12/01 RE: Sky High Gasoline “georgia officials are mopping these profiteers up! public broadcasts are being made, asking the public to report any violations.” 5:48:29 PM 9/12/01 RE: Sky High Gasoline “Better yet, buy a gallon and send it back to them a la flaming moe.” 6:20:21 PM 9/12/01 RE: Sky High Gasoline “ours went up 20 cents in 15 min. we filled up at 1.35 not to bad. but after that I walk!” 6:20:41 PM 9/12/01 RE: Sky High Gasoline “Gas is still the same where I live. Ironically my town is always .15 higher than all the surrounding towns. Gouge the college kids. If oil companies are gouging then I'm with mel--nuke the fookin bastadrs! My opinion of Bush would really go up if would step in and stop this... I liked hearing the warning that mayor Rudy of NY gave last night. He threatened legal action against any merchants in NY who try to take advantage of this. I wish Bush would do the same.” 6:59:38 PM 9/12/01 RE: Sky High Gasoline “humanpackmule and radagast, I'd like to know where you got your information. My sister got her scheduled shipment of oil today and they won't tell her how much they are charging her for it. She has area businesses, local police and ambulances and community members needing this oil. She leaves the price the same and the price goes up at the transfer center and my sister loses. She's been in tears half the day. People are calling her up and threatening her. Customers are screaming at her because they want product NOW. Don't accuse all small store owners because of a few bad apples. Oil companies have been focking with us all year! They raised the price just before Labor Day weekend and then they lowered them afterward. Makes it look like the gas stations are the culprit. They deliver a shipment on Friday and don't give you an invoice until Monday. Meanwhile you've sold product below cost for two days. Do you people really think that gas sits in those station tanks THAT long?? Americans use LOTS of gas. So, until you KNOW what you're saying is fact, you can stop pointing your fingers. Get a grip people. This is the result of terrorism. Everyone is running scared and no one trusts anyone anymore. They did their job well.” 7:03:22 PM 9/12/01 RE: Sky High Gasoline “Gas is the same here in Reno. As for retaliation, it will happen. I don't know what, where, or how, but it will happen. Probably some sneaky black bag stuff like Delta Force or the CIA.” 7:07:08 PM 9/12/01 RE: Sky High Gasoline “sunshine, this is based on a subject that you studied in elementary school... the profiteers are private merchants, but not all merchants are profiteers. get a grip, ladies.” 9:58:16 PM 9/12/01 RE: Sky High Gasoline “Gasoline prices actually dropped 9 cents a gallon here this afternoon, right after I filled my tank.” 10:46:41 PM 9/12/01 RE: Sky High Gasoline “stayed the same here in richmond, long lines last night though.” 10:48:57 PM 9/12/01 RE: Sky High Gasoline “Flood the market with oil and gas. Stop using it. Find other ways to get where you are going. Let them eat their oil. Voluntary rationing. How little can you use?” 12:17:56 AM 9/13/01 RE: Sky High Gasoline “I guess Iowa stations that did this are getting zapped by the Iowa Attorney General's office. (I even heard the Illinois AG is going after them, perhaps cuz of refineries there??) Heard this morning that one station was in Tipton, a small town maybe 20 miles off I-80. Hmmmmmm..., I remember back in 81 or 82-ish, paying my first buck a gallon gas there. No, it's not a place I normally go. But isn't that strange??!” 9:23:03 AM 9/13/01 RE: Sky High Gasoline “Nobody likes to admit this, but the fact is, gas is a bargain. Actually, it's a steal. The DOD spends something like $70 billion dollars a year defending the world's oil supplies, and not a dime of that is included in the price at the pump. Here we are debating whether we can afford a security force to protect airline passengers, and yet our government has had no problem running a national security force to protect "our" oil. If the price of gas included the cost of this protection, I bet it would easily double. We're willing to pay $8.00 a gallon for bottled water. But $4.00 gas is outrageous? If the automakers improved car and truck mileage by 10% we wouldn't have to protect ANY middle eastern oil fields.” 4:26:25 PM 10/24/01 Jump to Page |  1 | 2
