I must say that I resonate with Omaha Hiker's last two posts. It would be impossible and irrational for security people not to pay attention to people's country of origin when scrutinizing people.

But, we can do this with kindness, grace and respect and without taking the kinds of extreme and dehumanizing mesures listed at the begining of the thread. The vast majority of people of every ethnic group in this country are here for similar reasons. Our citizens and our guests deserve respect.

Besides if people remember the wave of terrorism in the 70's we had Germans, Italians, Japanese and Americans doing horrible things.

We'd be stupid to try to be blind to the national origins of most of the terroists, but it would be far worse to be blinded in anyway to the humanity and decency of most people who share those national origins and to be blinded to the possibilty that the next terrorist could be blonde haired and blue eyed.”

Explain how these things are even remotely similar. BB, you did not want from the beginning what PedXing said. You called for indiscrimient attacks on anyone that was either Muslim, Arab, or Middle Eastern--this is in no way in agreement with what was said above.

Rereading the original post that started this mess, and then reading that you are defending this misguided manifesto still--it's really making me sick.

Number 3, these "special" search procedures are being instituted for everyone...are Arabs/Middle Easterners being scrutinized more so than others--probably. Is there a difference between this extra scrutiny and written explicit permission to target people due to race--definitely. Your suggestion opens many more doors than it closes.

Number 5 has not been adopted by our leadership--in no way have they said that bombing countries we think are involved, and accepted collateral damage, is what the American people want. If that was the case, we'd have sent the bombs already. Instead, the leadership is trying to determine who is responsible and then taking action.

You need to think before you post, BB. I am sure that your reasoning and suggestions have honest and patriotic origins, but your words have not been chosen wisely--thus the backlash.

As far as my own solutions--I am still formulating. Rest assured that only solutions that address the root of the problem will help us to eradicate this threat, those that address only the surface may give us immediate satisfaction, but will only steel the will of those that hate us.”
