RE: TT Members of the Military and Related Fields
I just finished reading "Strike and Hold" by T. Moffatt Burriss (published 2000). He was a company commander in the 504 Parachute Infantry Regiment in WWII. (for the record, his unit went through more than the "Band of Brothers" did). At the end of the book he asks and answers the question whether our young people today could do what our young people did in WWII? After giving it much thought, he feels the answer is "yes".

I agree with Lipstick. If Bush calls an attack on the terrorists, it will be about over before we hear about it. He was calling head's of state all over the world this morning. My guess it was to get world-wide support for sending our bombers over know terrorist positions.

U.S. retaliation isn't going to be a one-off deal. And we shouldn't be surprised to see protracted attacks take place from infantry (or special forces), large naval weaponry, and air strikes. It will be interesting to see what role our allies take on considering the nature of our enemy.

The gravity of circumstances also seems to overshadow any meaningful influence from the United Nations. My suspicion is that in coming months they will serve as a source of impedance. Considering how far this might go, I also wonder if the UN can survive, or how it will change. -That will need to be managed.

RE: TT Members of the Military and Related Fields
Our Omaha World-Herald newspaper carried a photo on the front page, showing two soldiers in the World Trade Center area. It is blown up to about 8X10 inches. My younger son looked at it and immediately said it was his big brother. Of course it is impossible to say for sure with the dust mask, but it really does look like him. As I have mentioned, he is stationed in Fort Drum, NY. See a smaller version here:

Let's try that one more time, apparently you can't link directly to a particular photo there:
