TT Members of the Military and Related Fields
Who do we have here in the military?

Who do we have here not in the military, who is also participating in coping with this terrorist tragedy?

Who among you here are actively and/ or peripherally involved dealing with this terrible situation?

What is your current status in this crisis?

How does this affect your job?

What do you think needs to be done?

I am not in the military but I work for a direct supplier.

Probably just means more sales for our company. We are a direct supplier of weapons to the U.S. Army, Isreal, Eygpt, Saudia Arabia, Turkey, United Arab Emmigrants, and other foreign allied govts.

I have a high degree of respect for anyone in military. It is a tough job, as advertised.

My son is in the Army, an infantry unit in New York state. I hope that he will be able to do something to help alleviate the trouble we are now experiencing; although of course, my foremost concern is for his safety.

RE: TT Members of the Military and Related Fields
Just got home from a long days work.

It has been heck for everyone. As soldiers we are all on the highest alert status possible. I guess I'm fairly lucky that I have a few hours to come home to relax and eat before going out to guard something again. My unit (unspecified) has been tasked to provide soldiers for SASO (Stability And Sustainment Operations) if needed. Currently we haven't been given an order to go anywhere, but we are prepared to deploy for whatever use they have for us.

As a soldier, I speak for many of my comrads in the feeling we wish there was something we could do to the perpatrators of this attack NOW and HARSHLY! But also as defenders of the nation, we feel ineffective to do what we have sworn to do when our enemies attack in such fashion. We feel like we have somehow let the country down.

That is idiotic. People have died, US soldiers are ready to fight and die. Those same soldiers are worried that they lets us down (FAT CHANCE!) and you want to laugh. Disgraceful!

I used to be in ROTC, but the USA decided they didn't want me. I don't feel bitter of angy towards my country for this, but I still feel the same desire to serve it. Regardless if you are in the military, you can make a contribution to the effort. Every one of you who is watching the news right now and keeping up on the current events are taking a part. Every one of you who gave blood, or are going to, are taking a part. To all the military personel out there, I salute you. May your battles be quick and causualties be low. You are fighting for all of the Americans who cannot. You represent not the will of the government, but the entire United States of America. Now go Kick some Ass.

RE: TT Members of the Military and Related Fields
As a member of the military(part-time now) and a neighbour(a few provinces/states removed), I can tell you that we're all horrified by the unbelievable tragedy that happened yesterday morning. I heard about it at my civilian job and spent every spare moment I could watching the newscasts. I just got back from a friend's(also army) place where a bunch of us spent many hours watching things unfold over CNN & trying to comprehend it. You know what? I don't know what to say. It's almost surreal, you know?

Did any of us ever think something this horrific and purely evil could happen? My heart goes out to the families, loved ones of everyone who's missing and the rescue workers who are trying to deal with aftermath...

As of this moment the entire Land Forces Western Area(Canada) are on 4 hours notice to move... I truly wish there was something we could do besides sit and wait!

My daughter`s best friend, that I feel like I raised is in the Army. She spent five days a week at our house for the better part of six years.

RE: TT Members of the Military and Related Fields
My job takes me to all of our military installations (Army, Navy and Air Force) in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana. They'd all gone back to "open posts", meaning no MPs at the entrances...anyone could enter at will. I thought that was pretty shortsighted. As of yesterday, no more of that sh1t.

It took the security guard a full 2 minutes this morning to check my ID and go through my briefcase. It's gonna be a long day doing that to everyone who enters the building.

I'm sure a lot of people will be enlisting over this. My hat is off to all of them.

My father is scheduled to fly to Washington this afternoon. He was due to meet with people in the Pentagon this evening and tommorrow. Last night he said that the area destroyed housed mostly Navy and.. (was it Air Force??) and was unlikely to house people he knew. I'm not sure if his meetings will be on.

The old man knows a bunch of people who work there. I can only hope they are all OK. My brother knew some of them as well.

RE: TT Members of the Military and Related Fields
I have friends and family whose sons are part of the Army Corps of Engineers effort.

I have folks I worked with in a past job who worked in the WTC. I know folks who have responsibilities in the financial sector of WallStreet.

I currently work for a supplier to the automotive world, who of course depends on MEX/CAN suppliers. With the borders closed up until a few hours ago, we cannot meet our scheduled shipments. Ford/GM/etc will all shut down if order is not restored quickly.

With our economy teetering on the brink of a recession, the impact of manufacturing interruptions, airport closures, postal delays, no viable place to conduct world trade.. the future is a very scary place.

I am confident however, that the American people will respond in a mighty way. God bless all of us.

I have been in the U.S. Army for a little over 19 years (retiring in Feb 2003) . I am currently a Recruiter and yesterday was called and told to go home until further notice. They didn't want us in public places until everything cooled down.Today I've been in some anti-terrorism briefings and am in civilian clothes. Tomorrow it will be business as usual. I sincerely hope that we can ELIMINATE this culprit and his followers. I full confidence that we can kick anyones @ss that wants some of the Greatest Military Force on EARTH!

One of our members here on TT belongs to a branch of the milatary which deals with counter-terrorism.

I understand the part of the Pentagon which was hit housed the units/ operations with which this person works.

There is a tremendous amount of work these folks have to do.

We owe them much.

Phil, I haven't been to Kingsley Field for several years, but I remember my first trip there: it was my home-away-from-home for a week while fighting a forest fire there.

Two of the structural engineers down the hall are on their way to NYC as part of the Urban SAR team, looking for survivors.

It would be a very tough job telling people whether it's safe to go in a wreckage or not. Destroyed buildings is so way out of the scope of our training. It's a balancing act between lives of rescuers vs potential survivors.

Hey bacpac, my friend's son is in the marines based on the east coast. They are on full alert for a mission to Afghanistan, perhaps today.

How is your son? Have you heard from him? Our prayers are with you and all the military personnel, friends and family.

Get ready folks, because with all the knowledge they have probably gained from the airlines yesterday with rosters, and airline video, we already know who has done this. When Bush strikes, he's not going to necessarily announce it to us until it's happening.

I've been in the Air Force for almost 10 years now.
As with all other services, I am on alert status. I'm just waiting and willing to do whatever the military wants me to do.

Right now I'm more proud to be an American than I ever have been. Look at all of the heroes this aweful tragedy has produced. Firemen, policemen, medics, doctors, blood donors, the list goes on and on.

God bless America
