Airlines? “I'd like to know why the cockpit doors are open before the flight, during the flight, and as I depart the plane. That door should be shut & locked before everyone boards, and until they disembark. The airplanes should be reconstructed so that the pilots do not have to leave the cockpit during the flight. Just wondering. Lookingglass” 10:06:31 PM 9/11/01 RE: Airlines? “It's probably a marketing strategy. 61.3% of Americans prefer to see what the pilot looks like.. If engineers ran the world instead of consumer analysts, a lot of things would be different.” 10:09:23 PM 9/11/01 RE: Airlines? “If it's a marketing scheme, it's not working, because planes on a yearly basis all around the world are hijacked.” 10:16:56 PM 9/11/01 RE: Airlines? “I don't know...maybe so the passengers can come help the co-pilot subdue the pilot if/when he goes psycho...just like in the EgyptAir plane crash. Or to make it easier for the flight attendants to bring them their coffees. U R right, they should really lock their doors.” 10:26:26 PM 9/11/01 RE: Airlines? “stanlee, thank you. KEEP THE DOORS LOCKED.” 10:43:24 PM 9/11/01 RE: Airlines? “Jet engines aren't as safe as prop planes, either, but people like the look of them better..” 10:45:17 PM 9/11/01 RE: Airlines? “Personally, I like to look at female flight attendants. No offence to anybody...just wanted to lighten the mood on this horrific day. God bless.” 12:03:38 AM 9/12/01 RE: Airlines? “I thought cockpit door are locked during flights. I'll ask my brother, who's a pilot for Continental.” 12:27:34 AM 9/12/01 RE: Airlines? “steve hiker, they leave the cabin to use the toilets. I think planes should be reconstructed with a toilet in the cockpit so they didn't have to open the door.” 12:30:21 AM 9/12/01 RE: Airlines? “Steve, up in Canada here, the pilots are requesting to have locks installed on the doors about a year ago. Lock, what lock?” 12:32:36 AM 9/12/01 RE: Airlines? “Heard an interview with a very experienced retired pilot. He said there should be a sturdy door that the pilots can lock from inside the cockpit to keep hijackers out. The doors they have are easy to break through. He said this has been a suggestion since the hijacking waves of the 50's and 60's, but nothing has ever been done.” 12:37:19 AM 9/12/01 RE: Airlines? “Reality, The truth of the matter is, LH & I have flown numerous times, and as far as I can remember, everytime I enter the plane the cockpit door is open, during the flight I will see the pilot -WITH- the cockpit door open it may only be a short time but it is still unlocked, and then when I depart the plane the cockpit door is again open and that is a fact. There is a definite serious problem here..... I would rather have a safe flight than see the pilot. God bless America.” 12:49:00 AM 9/12/01 RE: Airlines? “I do see cockpit doors open when I enter and leave the plane. Do many planes get hijacked before they're pushed away from the terminal? I have very rarely seen the cockpit door open during a flight, and even then it's just long enough to let one of the crew out to pee.” 10:09:59 AM 9/12/01 RE: Airlines? “Why not a separate door for the pilots, on the outside of the plane? Their own bathroom and completly separate from the passengers. What's to stop the pilots from unlocking the doors and letting in the hijackers if they threaten to kill hostages? What if they are actually killing hostages one a minute??? Or is that really a kneejerk reaction on my part? I think I'd still like a completely separate compartment. There are far more hijackers than deranged pilots, I think.” 1:42:10 PM 9/12/01 RE: Airlines? “In Logon airport (where ever that is) they just removed all knives enclding the plastic ones from the airports snack bars, and other food areas.” 2:02:38 PM 9/12/01 RE: Airlines? “Airlines of the future should probably resemble subway trains; you won't see the pilots, you'll just shuufle on and get off at your stop. No carry-on, no flight attendants, just point A to pont B (alive).” 2:42:47 PM 9/12/01 RE: Airlines? “I guess there's one already- Aeroflot.” 2:49:26 PM 9/12/01 RE: Airlines? “And Southwest!” 3:27:06 PM 9/12/01 RE: Airlines? “Resemble self-serve gas stations and Chinese buffets...can't hijack a plane if they can't get into the cockpit.” 3:35:01 PM 9/12/01 RE: Airlines? “Logan is the Boston airport.” 12:26:46 PM 9/13/01 RE: Airlines? “maybe pilots should carry guns.” 1:34:53 PM 9/13/01 RE: Airlines? “I am flying to San Diego next Thursday. I have been practicing my hand to hand combat skills and bomb disarming techniques.” 1:36:23 PM 9/13/01 RE: Airlines? “Bacpac, I heard/read that some of those hijackers/killers had a knowledge of commando fighting techniques.” 2:50:22 PM 9/13/01 RE: Airlines? “All I can say is thank god for cell phones” 2:52:21 PM 9/13/01 RE: Airlines? “thank god for cell phones? Oh, that's right...biz likes radiation! >;oP” 3:33:21 PM 9/13/01 RE: Airlines? “"We should just arm the passengers!"- Archie Bunker” 3:48:40 PM 9/13/01 RE: Airlines? “The airlines just issued new rules for knives: no knives regardless of how small the blade. Unsure where can openers and scissors fall. I may just get a v'nox sparten and cut the knife blades off for air travel than send checked baggage through for one item. Bacpac, be forewarned that the airport here, in San Diego, is not allowing anything in or out. Soap box time: Plainclothes, armed cops on the plane would cut into profits. But, how well do you think knives would fare against guns. Isreal puts soldiers on their planes, and I am not aware of any successfull hijacking of their planes.” 6:51:33 PM 9/13/01 RE: Airlines? “thats my thought Markar, don't impose more restrictions on innocent passengers. Put federal law enforcement on all passenger and freight flights.” 6:53:56 PM 9/13/01 RE: Airlines? “Good idea Pathman, rules are for everyone else.” 8:50:06 PM 9/13/01 RE: Airlines? “Here we go again... Screw the nuke this and retaliation that. I am sick and tired of recriminations, accusations, bloodlust, and provocations that have taken over this board. I am responding to backpacking posts only before I say something I'm going to regret.” 9:17:07 PM 9/13/01 RE: Airlines? “"Learn how to submit your ideas Boeing has received many calls and e-mail messages from the public offering suggestions on how to protect our airplanes from hijackers. Commercial Airplanes Engineering already has a group dedicated to evaluating all enhancements to our airplanes and for legal reasons, cannot accept unsolicited ideas. To protect the company from and to protect the individuals' ideas, it is important not to forward these ideas. Any messages received from the outside public or employees with ideas or suggestions should be forwarded directly to the Phantom Works' External Ideas group at (206) 655-5642 or e-mail to Ideas@Boeing.com There, interested parties will be provided with specific instructions on how to properly submit their ideas to the company." No wonder they can't get the airliners to make a door that shuts properly, there's already a patent on that.” 8:49:42 PM 9/17/01 RE: Airlines? “Problem is that the airlines fought the FAA and Department of Transportation on rules that would have prevented this, or at least would have helped. Now they're crying that they'll go under if the Feds don't bail them out. What a crock. One thing that I don't like about our "home" companies. They'd sell there own mothers if they could make a profit. I wonder how many law suits will be filed against them anyway? They should fold'em and start over.” 9:06:40 PM 9/17/01 RE: Airlines? “Government will support Boeing, there's not that many aerospace companies around anymore (remember, they all merged?) Lockheed & Boeing are the only big contenders left.” 9:16:40 PM 9/17/01 RE: Airlines? “Oh, no doubt the feds will want to keep the airlines makers around, I just think that a little Federal kick in the a$$ is in order for airliners. Some of the things that they are doing now...I surprised that it wasn't already done before!! Common sence. I've sworn off flying since my honeymoon (5 years now). And to be real honest here. Anytime I go anywhere, be it a baseball game, downtown, bar, airport (dropping off and picking up, of course) I am always thinking "Gee, if I was a terrorist and wanted to do harm, what would I do?". Americans do not like to be impeeded in there daily lives, until something like this happen...” 9:31:06 PM 9/17/01 RE: Airlines? 11:31:51 AM 9/19/01 Comforting? “Pilot's lawsuit alleges airliners rigged with explosives Field McConnell, a pilot for Northwest Airlines, has filed a lawsuit charging that many commercial airliners are rigged with explosives that can be remotely detonated. He refuses to fly until such devices are removed. McConnell's claim is seemingly given credence by none other than Boeing's vice-president, who tacitly admitted the fact in a speech last year. "The lawsuit, filed last week, claims Boeing Co. and the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) can't assure him that B747-400 planes are safe. McConnell, who is the process of seeking an early retirement from Northwest, claims the planes are rigged by Boeing and can be remotely detonated," reports the West Central Tribune .” 5:40:16 AM 3/09/07 “Ticket prices going up-what's wrong the taxpayer can't keep up with the subsidies?” 11:57:51 AM 9/27/07 “We need more this and that and the other. Raise taxes on tickets and shut up.” 10:32:37 AM 1/19/08 “Don't worry! That guy seated next to you is an Air Marshal and has a loaded gun. And I suspect that they are about half way completed in giving all the crew and flight attendants training in close quarters Martial Arts. I enjoy watching the girls, too, not the doors. Relax.” 10:55:38 AM 1/19/08 “I'm tired of paying for all of this. User tax? Can't do that when the whole economy has the plastic concentration on tourism. Too much traffic wouldn't be a problem with the fares where they should be in price, but the lobby money brings more and more tourist to your neighborhood.” 11:54:39 AM 1/19/08 “Okay americans, let's take another stab at the last two pages of the script.” 9:25:08 AM 4/09/08 “Hopefully you can't get a knife on board to take a stab. I only see one page.” 3:26:36 AM 4/10/08 “Three thousand flights of fuel saved. How much did that save American Airslimes?” 9:20:09 AM 4/12/08 ““Hopefully you can't get a knife on board to take a stab." A sharpened pencil held at the jugular is a very dangerous thing. “Don't worry! That guy seated next to you is an Air Marshal and has a loaded gun." Actually, fewer than 1% of commercial flights have an Air Marshal on board. They are investigating that little problem right now. last edited: 4/12/08 9:39:17 AM” 9:36:21 AM 4/12/08 “They allow knitting needles on board. You ever see those things...lethal! Airline ALL SUCK, buy an RV!” 9:43:34 AM 4/12/08 “That's exactly why I bought an RV...that and my wife doesn't backpack but will let me use it as a basecamp for long trips :-p” 6:05:07 PM 4/12/08
