Boot lacing help
Here's a bit of a subject change...

I have newer boots. I had a terrible time choosing and thought I got a great fit. My left boot rubs just a touch on my heel and creates a blister. Not a huge one but bothersome just the same. The right boot fits awesome, no complaints. So my question is:

Is there a specific way you know of to lace a boot to prevent heel slippage? Anyone ever use an insole etc on just one boot? Any suggestions? Thanks.

RE: Boot lacing help
I tried an insole in just one boot once and it made my back hurt (?!). I have extremely narrow heels and the only thing that I have found to keep them from slipping is to make sure the laces are really tight at the ankle.

When my boots were new, I had the same trouble w/ the right boot. I bought a heel insert. Trouble was, I didn't break them in w/ the heel insert before I hiked in them. Pain!

Just thought I'd share that! I don't have any suggestions as to lacing your boots differently.

P.S. I love the change of subject!

RE: Boot lacing help
Yes there is such way and it works.
Go to montrail.com and follow the links to "Fit center" they have a page on different lacing techniques with graphics.

I like the change too.

I feel the inserts, the green ones, are worth the money. When I bought my Raichle's recently, I had a bit of trouble which cleared up when I changed lacing techniqe. Lace them up to thru the lace holes, then tie off with a double overhand, that is, wrap it around twice rather than once. Then go to the top hook, double overhand, then to the bottom, then next to top, then down to the last one. This makes a very secure and slip free fit, for me anyway. Good luck.

RE: Boot lacing help
I think I'll try the lacing first. I hate to spend money on something I'll only use half of. Much rather save it for something I'll use all of...LIKE a new sleeping bag or headlamp or fleece socks....

Another thought is to address your foot at the same time. Band-Aid has some type of application that is used before hiking to prevent blisters on spots that are troublesome.

RE: Boot lacing help
I've bought extra long laces and wrapped them once around my ankle to snug up that part of my boot and laced them under the top lace hook. Putting an single knot where the laces cross over also works, but beware, it is finicky.

RE: Boot lacing help
Laced 'em different at work last night, seemed to help alot BUT that was only being on foot for four hours and on terrazo, not a trail. Zieleski will be the test I guess. Thanks for your help and suggestions everyone!

RE: Boot lacing help
Joy, why would you use only half of a pair of Superfeet inserts? The green ones are to replace existing insoles. Blue ones are for boots that do not have a removable insole. If you only use an insert with one boot, you run the risk of back problems.

Click on "Tech Info" tab and then click on "Lacing for a Better Fit"

RE: Boot lacing help
I have a perfect fit with the right boot, didn't think there'd be any room for an additional insole and didn't understand that ya take out the original insoles...duh. Sometimes I'm a bit thick in the above the shoulders region. I've checked the montrail site and printed out the lacing instructions. Much like a puzzle but once figured out seemed to work. Thanks ski.
