Re-use of the World Trade Center Site “Even as heroic rescue efforts are under way and countless tons of rubble remain to be cleared, New York City officials have vowed to rebuild the World Trade Center towers. My first thought was there is no way anyone would want to lease space or work there again. Perhaps a memorial and/or museum would be most appropriate on this important, publicly owned land. Then I realized that we have to be brave and defy those who would try to make us fear. I have come up with a design for a new building, one that would be taller and more magnificent than what was destroyed and would send a message to terrorists in a most ?New York? way. My submission is pictured below: ##### ##### ##### ##### ##### ##### ##### ##### ##### ##### ##### ##### ##### ##### ##### ##### ##### ##### ##### ##### ##### ##### ##### ##### ##### ##### ##### ###################### ##### ###################### ############################ ############################ ############################ 4:22:18 PM 9/13/01 RE: Re-use of the World Trade Center Site “AWESOME!!” 4:28:43 PM 9/13/01 RE: Re-use of the World Trade Center Site “Good "point", Violin. But I would like to see another city park there. Most people will not want to work there again, although some people survived both the bombing and this crash, meaning some people didn't leave after the first attack.” 4:30:12 PM 9/13/01 RE: Re-use of the World Trade Center Site “Seriously, I must say that I wholeheartedly agree with the intent of what you said: "...we have to be brave and defy those who would try to make us fear. [We must replace the World Trade Center Towers with] a new building, one that would be taller and more magnificent than what was destroyed and would send a message... in a most ?New York? way..."” 4:35:18 PM 9/13/01 RE: Re-use of the World Trade Center Site “The world's first half-mile-tall building would be cool (and useful), in my opinion. Maybe a park is more appropriate, too, though. I say that New Yorkers should decide in a referendum; that way, everybody gets at least to have their say.” 4:38:06 PM 9/13/01 RE: Re-use of the World Trade Center Site “How about a park in the building?” 4:42:49 PM 9/13/01 RE: Re-use of the World Trade Center Site “Half mile, high rise, memorial park.” 4:42:49 PM 9/13/01 RE: Re-use of the World Trade Center Site “I've been giving thought to what will become of the bldg space for a few days now. I don't know what to say at this time. What will they do with all the debris that contains massive amounts of dead people? A memorial would be nice, but let's face it, this is prime New York land, so who can say at this time what will happen. I believe the bldg was as strong as it needed to be. This was a most unusual circumstance that brought it down.” 4:44:46 PM 9/13/01 RE: Re-use of the World Trade Center Site “I think they should rebuild. We have to send the message to other Terrorist groups that we aren't going to take their sh!t and the only way to do that is to rebuild.” 6:15:17 PM 9/13/01 RE: Re-use of the World Trade Center Site “Great design violin!” 6:25:20 PM 9/13/01 RE: Re-use of the World Trade Center Site “Track Title: New York, New York (from 'On the Town') Prime Artist: Frank Sinatra Written by: Leonard Bernstein Written by: Adolph Green Written by: Betty Comden From the Film: On The Town 1949 (M) Lyrics: Dockhand: I feel like I'm not out of bed yet, oh, oh, oh Oh the sun is warm, and my blanket's warmer, Sleep, sleep in your lady's arms, Sleep in your lady's arms. (Ship's whistle, the sailors rush down from ship to dock) Sailors Gene Kelly, Frank Sinatra and Jules Munshin sing: New York, New York, New York, New York, New York, New York, it's a wonderful town! Dockhand: Hahaha, hey fellas, what's the big rush? Sailors: We only got 24 hours! We've never been here before! Dockhand: What can you see in one day? What do you think you're gonna do? Sailors: New York, New York, it's a wonderful town! The Bronx is up and the Battery's down The people ride in a hole in the ground, New York, New York, it's a wonderful town! (musical interlude) The famous places to visit are so many, So the guys would say, I know my grandpa wouldn't miss any in just one day Gotta see the whole town, >From Yonkers on down to the bay, in just one day. New York, New York, it's a wonderful town, The Bronx up and the Battery's down, The people ride in a hole in the ground, New York, New York, it's a wonderful town (musical interlude) We sailed the seas and played a bit of poker way in Mandalay, We've walked the streets till the night was over, And we can safely say, the most fabulous sight is New York In the light of day, our only day. New York, New York, it's a wonderful town, The Bronx is up and the Battery's down, The people ride in a hole in the ground, New York, New York, it's a wonderful town Manhattan women are all dressed in satin, so the fellows say, There's just one thing necessary in Manhattan, When you just have one day, Gotta pick up a date, maybe seven or eight, By your way, in just one day. New York, New York, it's a wonderful town, The Bronx is up and the Battery's down, The people ride in a hole in the ground, New York, New York, it's a wonderful town.” 6:28:01 PM 9/13/01 RE: Re-use of the World Trade Center Site “Track Title: New York, New York Album Title: Frank Sinatra: The Reprise Collection, Disc 4 Prime Artist: Frank Sinatra Arranger: Don Costa Written by: John Kander Written by: Fred Ebb Lyrics: Start spreadin' the news, I'm leavin' today I want to be a part of it, New York, New York These vagabond shoes are longing to stray Right through the very heart of it, New York, New York I wanna wake up in a city that doesn't sleep And find I'm king of the hill, top of the heap These little town blues are melting away I'll make a brand new start of it, in old New York If I can make it there, I'll make it anywhere It's up to you , New York, New York New York, New York I want to wake up in a city that never sleeps And find I'm A-number-one, top of the list, King of the hill, A-number-one These little town blues are melting away I'm gonna make a brand new start of it in old New York A-a-a-nd if I can make it there, I'm gonna make it anywhere It's up to you, New York, New York New York REBUILD IT IN THAT NEW YORK STYLE.....I like that idea...” 6:29:31 PM 9/13/01 RE: Re-use of the World Trade Center Site “wow, Sirpete is still alive and kickin..that's a relief!” 11:54:33 PM 9/13/01 RE: Re-use of the World Trade Center Site “New York is a rat's nest. Mayor Rudy - the BIG RAT. It wasn't long ago he was cracking jokes at Seattle for cancelling the Y2K celebration because of a terrorist threat which was thwarted. (BTW, also sponsored by Bin Laden) How funny is terrorism now, Mayor Rudy?” 2:42:00 AM 9/14/01 RE: Re-use of the World Trade Center Site “We should let the site return to its natural state. We could limit access so as not to disturb the growth of indigenous plants that we would put back there. If any of the human species want to go there they'll have to apply for a permit, which won't cost any money, it would just be another opportunity to grow the federal beaurocracy. Then if you got a permit you would be assigned a designated travel route, so as to minimize the impact of your non-indigenous and unnatural human self on the land. No camp fires, of course, tents would be pitched on designated bare slabs of decaying concrete. In fact it would be a great idea to make everyone take a course in LNT ethics, at their own expense. No parking at the trailhead, to minimize the risk of crime and reduce scaring the indigenous fawna to be re-introduced. Then large predators could be placed there to balance out the the rodent population and further discourage human scum from spending their time imposing on the natural wildness of the area. But we'll all feel so much better just because that piece of natural wilderness exists and we made it happen. Then when it was wild enough we could re-introduce native americans, since europeans basically ripped them off in the deal to buy Manhatten. That's all I can think of right now. I need to learn a few more P.C. platitudes before I'll be ready to submit articles to outdoor sports magazines.” 8:17:52 AM 9/14/01 RE: Re-use of the World Trade Center Site “REBUILD! Any fool can destroy something, it takes greatness to build. Show the world that you might be able to knock us down but we will get back up again and again and again...” 9:27:59 AM 9/14/01 RE: Re-use of the World Trade Center Site “Definitely rebuild. I think that people will be ready to work there again by the time the new buildings could be completed. They should build new twin towers taller than the ones in Indonesia, but they should look distinctly different from the original WTC towers.” 3:30:39 PM 9/14/01 RE: Re-use of the World Trade Center Site “REBUILD??? I think NOT! Wha'd'ya say we dig up some cemetaries and put some buildings onsite there too! Good idea? How 'bout we rebuild on the less than 10-acre site where thousands were murdered lives within a matter of minutes? What a great idea!” 2:35:08 PM 9/15/01 RE: Re-use of the World Trade Center Site “What are they doing with all the rubble from the towers?” 3:02:33 PM 9/15/01 RE: Re-use of the World Trade Center Site “hauling it into the flats of Jersey and sifting through it for evidence.” 4:29:43 PM 9/15/01 RE: Re-use of the World Trade Center Site “Buildings and communities have stood on burial sites for eons. Catacombs. Make the ground floor the memorial.” 4:39:06 PM 9/15/01 RE: Re-use of the World Trade Center Site “I saw where a group of artists came up with an idea to use spotlights, perhaps on barges, to create 'ghost' images of the WTC the fill the blank spot in the NYC skyline. I think it's a great idea as it could be done almost immediately and could be left indefinitely as a memorial, even after the site is redeveloped (if it ever is).” 6:02:15 PM 9/24/01
