I am a scientist...is that a race? I would really like to do more research to see if and where "race" is part of the terminology. Anybody out there know if race is a scientific category in taxonomy?

“I don't understand the rancor directed at wsexon's explication. The differentiation between a social construct based on limited data (I can SEE that they are a different color than me!) and the biologic is no attempt at being PC. It's being rational. It is not a denial of social behavior.

An examination of genetic differentiation in humans does not find enough to reach the threshold biologists need to classify races within the human species as they might within other species. Color variations alone are not enough.

And I truly doubt that Steve Hiker can "with absolute certainty" separate on sight all Negros from those of other "races" considering the wide variation in skin tone, facial features, hair texture, etc., that cross alleged racial lines. Why, because Steve Hiker cannot define what a Negro is. How much "bloodline" or genetic code of a certain lineage must be present to make someone Negro or Caucasian? Any argument that a little bit of one makes you that one as a classification is inherently false because it doesn't go both ways.

If you are 1 percent "black" and 99 percent "white" some folks might say you are "black." But they wouldn't say the reverse ratio would make you white, would they? An illogical interpretation of data, which is the basis of the social construct called "racism," that one element is inferior.

Nor have I ever seen any correlation (and I can't imagine how Steve Hiker ever could have) between those who calmly present the biological view and those who file civil rights suits.

I spent four months working with students on exploring the issue of hate and its ancillary issues, such as racism, in order to build critical thinking skills. This differentiation between biological and social concepts was one of the most difficult divides to cross, so I don't expect it to be easy on TT either.”
