The Bush administration and the GOP are reaching out to hispanic voters.

After checking off the topics that are important to you, it asks for your occupation. The four choices are war veteran or retired military; teacher or educator; senior citizen; or farmer or rancher.

I guess they don't think there are any hispanic doctors, laywers, engineers or executives.

That's OK if you go to the DNC website and don't speak english, well if you want to register to vote you're SOL, the link takes you to a page with instructions in English.

Are they trying to make sure hispanics don't vote? seems counterintuitive but heh you never know in politics.

WASHINGTON — Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) refused repeated requests for a roll call vote that would have put senators on the record on a resolution apologizing for past failures to pass anti-lynching laws, officials involved in the negotiations said Tuesday.
[...]
As dozens of descendants of lynching victims watched from the Senate gallery, the resolution was adopted Monday evening under a voice vote procedure that did not require any senator's presence.

Eighty senators, however, had signed as co-sponsors, putting themselves on record as supporting the resolution. By the time the Senate recessed Tuesday evening, five other senators had added their names as co-sponsors, leaving 15 Republicans who had not.
[...]
The resolution was adopted under what is called "unanimous consent," whereby it is adopted as long as no senator expresses opposition.

But the group that was the driving force behind the resolution had asked Frist for a formal procedure that would have required all 100 senators to vote. And the group had asked that the debate take place during "business hours" during the week, instead of Monday evening, when most senators were traveling back to the capital.

Frist declined both requests, the group's chief counsel, Mark Planning, said Tuesday evening.
[...]
Jan Cohen, the wife of former Defense Secretary William Cohen and one of the key figures in the Committee for a Formal Apology, expressed outrage over the lack of a roll call vote.

"America is home of the brave, but I'm afraid there may be a few cowards who have to cower to their very narrow-minded and backward, hateful constituency," Cohen told ABC News. "They're hiding out, and it's reminiscent of a pattern of hiding out under a hood, in the night, riding past, scaring people."

why would you apologize for something that happened in the past esp when they had no control over it. It can't be undone, it is over with unless some state still has it in its book as a way of execution, then so be it

Orrin Hatch (R-UT)

I know for a fact he is a Mormon. I also know for a fact that part of the problems Mormonism found in its beginning was that they were abolitionists. So before you go giving him a call, or heck, any of these people, maybe do something we like to call rational thinking and research first.

How many of those 15 have actually lynched someone V ?

How many have been present at a lynching and not tried to stop it V ?

Have you issued a formal apology for Slavery V ?

Have you issued a formal apology to the Jewish people for the holocaust V ?

Have you issued a formal apology for the excesses of the church during the inquisition V ?

If you have I have never seen them, and if you have not, by your logic you DO support all those activities.

Get real.

I would prefer Congress spend this time trying to get National spending in line with National income, if not to balance the budget, at least get it close.
