How about just conservatives, since they were conservative bent back then.” 2:14:09 PM 6/15/05 “Right, that's why the families showed up there to watch and be insulted. They obviously felt a need for it.” Phaedrus 2:10:33 PM 6/15/05 See? Keep thinking this way... you'll get there eventually. Two letters: PR” 2:15:32 PM 6/15/05 “Yeah. PR. So why not do it then, if it is not, as we have discussed, an affront to the families of the victims?” 2:17:20 PM 6/15/05 “"Oy. How about just conservatives, since they were conservative bent back then.” - Phaedrus “The Great Avoidance.”” 2:17:57 PM 6/15/05 “Why hasn't there been a law passed before this V? Oh, that's right, the democrats in the Senate filibustered the anti-lynching law and thereby killing the bill. Where the phuck was Violink when Dean was talking about the only blacks at a republican dinner were servers? Damn race baters.” 2:18:36 PM 6/15/05 “So why not do it then, if it is not, as we have discussed, an affront to the families of the victims?” Phaedrus 2:17:20 PM 6/15/05 Because shameless PR IS an affront... Good Lord, are you this thick about everything?” 2:19:17 PM 6/15/05 “You know what? The democrats SHOULD apologize for allowing those jerks to remain in their party before they switched over to Republicans, you're right.” 2:20:38 PM 6/15/05 “Because shameless PR IS an affront... Good Lord, are you this thick about everything?” Harlock 12:19:17 PM 6/15/05 is an affront to whom? The families of the victims? Perhaps they don't see so clearly that it's just PR.” 2:21:39 PM 6/15/05 ““Because shameless PR IS an affront... Good Lord, are you this thick about everything?” Harlock 12:19:17 PM 6/15/05 is an affront to whom? The families of the victims? Phaedrus 2:21:39 PM 6/15/05 Yes and also to the memory of those who died. I knew you could get there!” 2:23:06 PM 6/15/05 “You mean like Al Gore's daddy and Robert (KKK) Byrd?” 2:23:25 PM 6/15/05 “Again... Tedious One, I ask why the families of the victims were THERE to watch the procedings if they felt it was an affront?” 2:24:16 PM 6/15/05 “Welcome aboard Harlock and yes, these guys are this thick about everything. Violin would sell his grandmother's soul if he thought he could get some good trolling attention out of it.” 2:24:46 PM 6/15/05 ““Again... Tedious One, I ask why the families of the victims were THERE to watch the procedings if they felt it was an affront?” Phaedrus 2:24:16 PM 6/15/05 Did I ever say they felt it was an affront? There are sheep everywhere... Baaaaah” 2:26:24 PM 6/15/05 “Victims' families are sheep. Okay. I'll let you have the last word on that. It's a pretty amazing opinion, IMO.” 2:28:59 PM 6/15/05 “Baaaaahh!” 2:29:28 PM 6/15/05 “SOme are, yes. Was every family member of every lynching victim ever present at that session? No quite obviously not. Isn't it possible some folks might have abstained rfmo such an invitation because they felt it was shameless PR, recognized they were being used and maybe even felt it was too little too late? It's not too hard to think for yourself, you know.” 2:31:02 PM 6/15/05 “Nigal, weren't you turning a new leaf some time back?” 2:31:11 PM 6/15/05 “It's not too hard to think for yourself, you know.” Harlock 12:31:02 PM 6/15/05 Believing that the senate should apologize for past wrongs as a matter of clearly stating the record in what is acceptable and what is not does not make me a follower, Harlock. Take it how you want.” 2:33:26 PM 6/15/05 ““Nigal, weren't you turning a new leaf some time back?” Oh absolutely. I don't any of you seriouse. The fact that I still think Violin is a dickhead has nothing to do with my new attitude. I'm all about being happy and content and he's still all about being assbag. :)” 2:33:40 PM 6/15/05 “damn, more time was wasted on this thread than it was worth. hell, if YOUwant to apologize for every frigging thing that YOU didn't have apart in or couldn't control then go right ahead and apologize if it makes you feel better. What a friggin joke thread this is...lol” 2:34:39 PM 6/15/05 “No, Ewker, I want you to apologize. Get busy. Beg.” 2:36:22 PM 6/15/05 “I don't see what the big deal is about apologizing. It's not like they're handing out reperations or anything. Then again, anyone that takes a government's apology to heart is a sad sack anyhow. But I do agree with Phaed that it defines what is acceptable and what is not. I like clear lines.” 2:39:28 PM 6/15/05 “Phad, how about you hold your breath till I do..ok” 2:39:49 PM 6/15/05 “Ewk, okay. Start now.” 2:40:51 PM 6/15/05 “I'll let you have the last word on that. It's a pretty amazing opinion, IMO.” Phaedrus 2:28:59 PM 6/15/05 Believing that the senate should apologize for past wrongs as a matter of clearly stating the record in what is acceptable and what is not does not make me a follower, Harlock. Take it how you want.” Phaedrus 2:33:26 PM 6/15/05 So much for letting me have the last word, eh? People know lynching isn't acceptable. My five year old knows he shouldn't hurt someone. Correct me if I am wrong, but murder is against the law in every state, territory and District. Politicians making a big to-do over it to state for the "record... what is acceptable and what is not" wasn't for anyone's benefit but their own. PR. Hollow apology and the sheep that bite. Baaaaah” 2:43:20 PM 6/15/05 “"People know lynching isn't acceptable." This is kind of what I said when I heard it on the radio today. Isn't lynching murder? Isn't torturing someone already ilegal? It's like beating the hell out of two people. Both beatings are ileagal but if one's gay, that's worse somehow. Lynch laws are like hate crime laws. Redundant. But hey, it's a free thing and it makes things clearer so what the hell? I'm not racist so why would I oppose it? last edited: 6/15/05 2:47:15 PM” 2:46:48 PM 6/15/05 “Phad, you still holding your breath..keep it up” 2:54:10 PM 6/15/05 “lynching may not be murder. It may be a way of exeuction if it is still on the books in some states. I don't know but I bet it is possible” 2:57:18 PM 6/15/05 partial update: “Orrin Hatch signed the resolution. Trent Lott refuses to make any public statements.” 1:18:19 PM 6/20/05 “Interesting in light of this thread to see Byrd's repeated and profuse apoligies. Not sure calling KKK membership a stupid mistake really is a convincing explanation, but still he once agin renounces it.” 2:13:05 PM 6/20/05 I'm not buying. “Byrd is much too smart a man not to have known exactly what the KKK was about.” 2:29:15 PM 6/20/05 “I agree. He ain't quite coming clean.” 5:41:53 PM 6/20/05 “Justice Department lawyers concluded that the landmark Texas congressional redistricting plan spearheaded by Rep. Tom DeLay (R) violated the Voting Rights Act, according to a previously undisclosed memo obtained by The Washington Post. But senior officials overruled them and approved the plan. The memo, unanimously endorsed by six lawyers and two analysts in the department's voting section, said the redistricting plan illegally diluted black and Hispanic voting power in two congressional districts. It also said the plan eliminated several other districts in which minorities had a substantial, though not necessarily decisive, influence in elections. "The State of Texas has not met its burden in showing that the proposed congressional redistricting plan does not have a discriminatory effect," the memo concluded. The memo also found that Republican lawmakers and state officials who helped craft the proposal were aware it posed a high risk of being ruled discriminatory compared with other options. But the Texas legislature proceeded with the new map anyway because it would maximize the number of Republican federal lawmakers in the state, the memo said. The redistricting was approved in 2003, and Texas Republicans gained five seats in the U.S. House in the 2004 elections, solidifying GOP control of Congress. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/12/01/AR2005120101927.html” 10:58:51 AM 12/02/05 “Psychiatry Ponders Whether Extreme Bias Can Be an Illness [...] Mental health practitioners say they regularly confront extreme forms of racism, homophobia and other prejudice in the course of therapy, and that some patients are disabled by these beliefs. As doctors increasingly weigh the effects of race and culture on mental illness, some are asking whether pathological bias ought to be an official psychiatric diagnosis. [...] "They are delusional," said Alvin F. Poussaint, a professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, who has long advocated such a diagnosis. "They imagine people are going to do all kinds of bad things and hurt them, and feel they have to do something to protect themselves. "When they reach that stage, they are very impaired," he said. "They can't work and function; they can't hold a job. They would benefit from treatment of some type, particularly medication." Doctors who treat inmates at the California State Prison outside Sacramento concur: They have diagnosed some forms of racist hatred among inmates and administered antipsychotic drugs. "We treat racism and homophobia as delusional disorders," said Shama Chaiken, who later became a divisional chief psychologist for the California Department of Corrections, at a meeting of the American Psychiatric Association. "Treatment with antipsychotics does work to reduce these prejudices." The edit feature is nice. Is it not, violin? last edited: 12/12/05 1:38:40 PM” 1:32:15 PM 12/12/05 “ What a bold assertion” 1:34:17 PM 12/12/05 “Looks fine to me. You guys off your meds?” 1:35:29 PM 12/12/05
