but to be fair to the other side..........
"and if Khatru is gettin into someone elses stuff...trust me...I'll be all over him in a heartbeat"

it shouldnt come to that. that said, the only thing that would bother me is if the dog got into my food. or peed on my pack or tent.

if the dog-owner is following whatever rules are in place, and the dog-owner is keeping the dog under control i.e, not letting him jump on ppl, bark all the time, chasing wildlife, etc, then the dog haters HAVE NO RIGHT TO COMPLAIN. heres an idea, if you hate gods so dogdamn much, then stay the fu ck home. if its an area where it is posted dogs are allowed, then dogs have JUST AS MUCH RIGHT AS YOU DO to be there, and YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO BIZTCH. as long as the dog-owners are folling the rules.

Why must I feel like that,,,why must I chase the cat...

What a merry-go-round.

When my ACD was 'sounder' she was a blessing on the inclines. Just lock into the harness and let her take point. Nothing beats getting towed uphill.

I carry a 4 foot lead some p-cord and a 'beaner' for a runner or longer leash when necessary.

One of the things I tried to do is to keep my dog behind me while hiking. Literally right on my heels. With the use of the hiking poles and/or the leash I'll keep her from passing me. Its a cat and mouse game alot of the time but she is prudy good about staying on the trail.

That way she can enjoy alittle freedom and I can quickly leash her if need be. Cause we all know how hard it is to leash a dog that is 10 yds up the trail.

Although she doesn't wander I'm worried about her encountering other free roaming dogs so I try to keep her close.

HYOH and respect others.

The last two times I was on the trail, I encountered unleashed k-9's. Both were far ahead of the owner, outta sight, but within voice command. The very last time, I believe the dog was on a trail that didn't allow them, which if I'm correct, is a bad poo poo. Both dogs ran up to me/us. Not knowing what to expect, I presented the end of my hiking pole, to which they backed down and went back to there owner. I think that it's too bad that these owners are the types of owners that one points to when refering to "trouble dogs". I don't mind a pooch that is under control. Charging me wouldn't be what I concider under control. I have own dogs all of my life and feel that I can judge what MIGHT happen during an encounter. I think that dogs can be on the trail, I wouldn't think twice if an owner I was hiking with took them off leash for a few. However, knowingly breaking laws of the land doesn't jive. If they are not suppose to be there, they shouldn't be there. If they are to be on a leash, put them on a leash. Rules are there for a reason, not for those who think they only apply to others.

(AP) DENVER
A woman was killed in a gruesome attack by a pack of pit bull dogs that residents say had been a roaming menace for months. Another man was injured but escaped after his son shot at the dogs.

Authorities began weighing charges Monday against the owners of the dogs.

Jennifer Brooke, 40, was killed early Sunday when she went to a barn to care for her horses, officials said. A friend, Bjorn Osmunsen, 24, was attacked when he went to look for her.

"It's a gruesome thing; it's kind of hard to deal with," Elbert County Undersheriff James Underwood said of Brooke's injuries. "Even the fire department and the rescue personnel were having a hard time dealing with some of it."

One dog had allegedly mauled a neighbor earlier this year, and officials said the dogs were well known in the rolling ranch land near Kiowa, southeast of Denver.

"The people in the area had their own sort of emergency phone network to warn each other if the dogs were loose before they would go out," Rattlesnake Fire District Chief Dale Goetz said.

After fatally mauling Brooke, the dogs moved on to a nearby home and attacked Lynn Baker when he stepped outside.

"One was leaping for my throat as one was dragging me down by my hand," Baker said.

He said he jumped into the bed of his pickup truck and screamed for family members to call authorities, and for his 16-year-old son, Cody, to grab a gun.

Cody Baker fired at the dogs with a shotgun, blinding one, knocking one down and disorienting the third. The distraction allowed his father to climb into the cab of the pickup and drive close enough to his house to scurry inside.

"I came out and shot the big one twice but it hardly slowed him down," said Baker, whose son also was attacked but was not injured.

"They were monsters. And they don't run away. They come at you, even when you are shooting at them," Baker said in a telephone interview. Cody Baker and a deputy eventually killed the dogs. Both Lynn Baker and Osmunsen were treated for their injuries and released.

The dogs' owners, one of whom was identified as Jacqueline McCuen, could face charges ranging from a misdemeanor to negligent homicide, said Mike Knight, spokesman for the district attorney.

Sad
I can't even image how gruesome that site could have been.

I wonder if those mankillers were licensed and registered. Like the shotgun that saved the day for Lynn probably was.

I hate pit's. They are the ugliest meanest dog I have ever seen. My old place of work has a pit to guard the lot. It gets a stray cat about ever other week. Filets it wide open.

It finally got a hold of this growing kitten we had 'inhouse' for our amusement. It shocked and pissed off everybody. To date, I still want to phukin buckwheat that MF dog w/my 12 ga. I still remember the 1st day I saw it,,,it lunge at me. It was completely airborne before it ran out of chain. His hind feet almost touch my face.

Its not a good dog.

Ewww!!
There was an article in the Baltimore Sun the other day about a local city/county park that will be having a part closed for over a year. The area is nicknamed Poop Peninsula due to the high concentration of dog crap left there by dog owners and of course their dogs. The soil has dangerous levels of bacteria and will be closed to the public while the topsoil is replaced. The city provided bags but got few takers. What a mess. What a ridiculous "waste" of taxpayers money.

Dogs have to have a place to go too. I can see people not wanting to have to clean it up but that's why we pay taxes. The government should do it. It would take one of those hefty leaf bags to clean up after Champ. His piles are huuuuugh dude. No sense for me to try to do something about it. And I'm not going to put a pile of dog doo in the back trunk of my new car. Forget it. Dirt is cheap. Just put more dirt on the old dirt.

That sounds like R.E. Lee Park in Baltimore.

The "peninsula" sits above Lake Roland in R.E. Lee Park.

The lake is part of the city water system......cleaning it up is good.
Too bad so many who enjoy the park are crapping on the rest of us.

It may seem odd that a park in Baltimore be named for Robert E. Lee.
The pumphouse building is made of stone with "1861" carved into a door lintel.
Lee was the U.S Army Corps of Engineers officer in charge of the project in happier times.

Yeah cool breeze, that's the attitude. Rather than spend more money on law enforcment let's get more full time city workers to pick up after dog owners who should pick up after themselves. While we're at it why don't we just throw our trash out the car window too. Hey, that's what tax money's for right?
