I'm an animal lover, and that's one reason i hike. I long to see dogs on the trail..and would love to see a cathiker cause i'd die laughing. Every dog i've seen on the trail is interested in everything else around it usually not the pple. Most run about 2 feet off the trail straight ahead sniffing..or right at their owners side or heels (if packlading) I even hope all the dogs i see have time to come up to me for a pat on the head or just a sniff to see that i'm alright too.

Unless something is wrong with a dog (sick, injured) or is trained to attack...they will not "attack" you unless you start flailing a stick at them and running the other way. they may sniff your or nuzzle your crotch..but has that ever caused lasting damage, it's kinda like a handshake”

I had a Gawd awful dog/hiker experience just three weeks ago:
I was on the Pinhoti trail where the Chinnabee Silent trail intersects. Looking down the mountain slope, I could see a hiker/dog approaching up the CS. They were only about 600 feet away. I'm not going to lie - I was very afraid! I dropped my pack and RAN the five miles back to the Cheaha trailhead, got in my truck (thank God I had the presence of mind to remember where my hide-a-key was) and sped away!

I stopped at the park, and reported my harrowing experience to a Ranger - she just shook her head and muttered "Those bastards!"

And what reeely ticks me off is the fact that the bastards probably made off with my pack! (including my brand new sleeping bag!)
