Bluesman Dead!!!Long Live The Blues!!!
On this date in 1970 James Marshall Hendrix died in London.

I can still remember where I was when I heard the news.

Though it makes me sad I feel the joy of electric guitar blues.

Nigal!!!! Please say something to help my respect level for you rise.
Jimi Hendrix was a great innovator and could play the electric blues like no other.
Bob Dylan said that Jimi took "All Along the Watchtower" and made it his song.
I could go on.....

Sorry Dunadan, it?s simply a matter of taste. He was good and he was ahead of his time but... I take a lot of crap because I like Jimmy Page better than Hendrix but it?s like apples to oranges, right? There is no ONE greatest axe man of all times. My personal favorite axe man on the planet dead or alive is Steve Vai?

but this thread is about Jimmy and looking back on it, it was disrespectful of me to dis on Jimmy when Tom was wanting to show respect and props to someone who?s music he obviously loves a lot. I apologize Tom. It was wrong of me.

RE: Bluesman Dead!!!
Last I heard the picture was sold to Hard Rock Cafe in Toronto, but a really good friend of mine's older brother did a painting of Hendrix and had it autographed while we all got to watch..

He wrote, "To Vincent: stay cool, stay free." and then signed his name. It's a day in my young life I will never forget.

House Burning Down

Words and Music by Jimi Hendrix
Copyright © 1968, 1997 Experience Hendrix, L.L.C.

Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey

Look at the sky turn a hell fire red
Somebody's house is burnin' down down, down down
Down, down, down.

Well I asked my friend where is that black smoke comin' from ?
He just coughed and changed the subject and
said oh wa I think it might snow some
So I left him sippin' his tea an' I jumped in my chariot
And rode off to see just why and who could it be this time.

Sisters and brothers daddys mothers standin' 'round cryin'
When I reached the scene the flames were makin' a ghostly whine
So I stood on my horse's back an' I screamed without a crack
I say oh baby why'd you burn your brother's house down ?

Hey ! Hey ! Hey ! Hey !

Look out the sky turn a hell fire red Lord
Somebody's house is burnin' down down, down down
Look out the sky turn a hell fire red Lord
Somebody's house is burnin' down down, down down down.

Well someone stepped from the crowd he was nineteen miles high
He shouts retired and disgusted so we paint red through the sky
I said the truth is straight ahead so don't burn yourself instead
Try to learn instead of burn, hear what I say, yeah, yeah.

So I fin'ly rode away but I'll never forget that day
'Cause when I reached the valley I looked way down cross the way
A giant boat from space landed with eerie grace
And came and taken all the dead away.

Hey ! Hey ! Hey ! Hey !

What'd I say.
Look at the sky turn a hell fire red Lord
Somebody's house is burning down down, down down
Look at the sky turn a hell fire red Lord
Somebody's house is burning down down, down down
Look at the sky, look at the sky.

Ooh, ooh, ooh
Ooh, ooh, ooh
Oh baby

Very relevant, fly.

Hey, Nigal, I'm not saying "best of all time", (although I might). I love Jimmy Paige. How many times do you think those two jammed together? I would bet it was a few.
Paige, Beck, and Hendrix were all trading and improvising each others licks.

"I don't know. You'd have to go ask Phil Keagey."

J M Hendrix responding to Time Magazine's question, "How's it feel to be the best guitar player in the world?"

You know how I found that quote you quoted, Mr.nigal? I did a net search for Phil Keagey's homepage, didn't find one though, buy YOUR quote was the first on the list of Yahoo's search results. No chit.

Hope to see you this weekend!

RE: Bluesman Dead!!!
Yeah, I posted it but it may turn out to be an urban lore thing as the times don't seam to match up well. Phil couldn't have been more than 18 or 19 when Jimmie Jam died and I don't know how well known Phil was then. I guess I really don't know for sure. Anyone?

RE: Bluesman Dead!!!
The late guitar player Randy California--played with Spirit--was given the name "California" by Jimi Hendrix.

In 1966 two guys named Randy were hangin' and playing guitar with Jimi in NYC.
One of them was from California and hence the name.

Mr. California was 14 at the time, or so I'm told.

Randy California died about 6 or 7 years ago in Hawaii.
He had just saved his young son from drowning and was himself taken by a rip current.
I don't think his body was found.

Do you think Jimi's version of the Star Spangled Banner would be appropriate at this time?

RE: Bluesman Dead!!!
YES
I think anyone's version of that tune is appropriate at this time.
It is OUR song and WE are a diverse people.

Nigal-
That was very nice!
Its a nice tribute to the Man With The Guitar!

I heard that Knucklehead Limbaugh said Jimi's version of TSSB was sacrilegious.......anything to bash the counter-culture I suppose.
