Chiggers. Dang I hate them. Thank God for Benadryl and Acetone.

RE: Chiggers
I use this stuff called Chigarid that is a camfore based topical. Works great for all bites. I react badly to mozzy bites and this stuff stops the itch and swelling for two to three days before I have to put more on. I've never had actual chiggers though.

RE: Chiggers
I have a friend who, I swear, gets chigger bites all the time. I have yet to get anything that resembles chigger bites.

Now stinging nettle is another matter. Baking Soda...don't leave home without it!

RE: Chiggers
I use Chig-away. I believe it keeps the ticks off as well. Just apply it at the sock line, ane places like the shirt cuffs.

RE: Chiggers
Put some plain ol' kerosine in a pump spray bottle and spray the tops of your socks and boots to prevent them.

Fingernail polish or Camphophenic (sp?) on new bites.

For bad itch use "Ambisol" -- the stuff for toothaches, it'll deaden the itch.

RE: Chiggers
I've never had, or known anyone who had, chiggers. I don't think they are usually found in MT (as far as I know). What I wanted to say though, is that the word chigger is disgusting. The word itself gives me the creepy crawlies.

RE: Chiggers
Chiggers are invisible and love to lodge under your skin, where your clothes are tight.

Chiggers, Chiggers, that's our cry!

RE: Chiggers
Also know as redbugs, also know as damn little !$%&s.

Sulfur powder around the socks also helps protect against them.

RE: Chiggers
Chiggers are mite larvae, and mighty annoying little varmits they are. I remember them well from when I was a kid back in Texas. The bites would just about drive us crazy they itched so bad. BTW, I don't think they actually burrow into the skin, but rather hang on while they suck blood. Nasty little fuggers!

RE: Chiggers
ChuckD is right. I use a little sulfur around my socks and waistband it keeps them off.

RE: Chiggers
Anyone ever read the book 'Furtive Fauna'? It describes the life cycles and mating habits of all those nasty little things that like human blood. It's actually quite entertaining.

RE: Chiggers
My son had something on his arms and legs that didn't itch, but when touched even gently it HURT - felt like it was being pinched or stung, lots of small spots. Only lasted one evening, gone conmpletely by the next morning.

Any ideas?

RE: Chiggers
I've only met one so far!!!!

Got one in the navel knot growing up. The bottom edge of the navel got to be rock hard and beyond belief in size. I was told to dab some clear nail polish on it, so I did and a few days later the swollen navel reduced and the chigger went away.
