THE AMERICAN FLAG
Maybe someone can help me with a link to www.usflags.org.

Go to this site, and you will find out things you may have never known about our flag. On the main page, you can go to "Table of Contents", then click on flag "ettiquette", and find out the right way to display a flag.

RE: THE AMERICAN FLAG
It wasn't indicated on the site but a flag should not be flown during inclement weather.

RE: THE AMERICAN FLAG
Yeah, there are a lot of folks who are abusing the flag these days, although I know their intentions are good.

RE: THE AMERICAN FLAG
Anyone ever notice the spelling of Usama Bin Laden's name....U.S.A.ma. Now that's weird.

RE: THE AMERICAN FLAG
Or Osama...I think the translation is inexact. Remember how many ways they spelled, (and pronounced), Kadhaffi?

RE: THE AMERICAN FLAG
I have a flag etiquette question.

My neighbors have flown a flag for several months now day and night in all kinds of weather. It is tattered and should have been retired ages ago.

They no longer speak to the lovely neighbors on the other side of them because they complained about their yapping dog (which we gently convinced them should be inside).

We generally like them and will be living next to them for a long time but it really bothers me to see this flag, especially now. I'm sure they think they are being patriotic but...

What would you do?

BTW: Their NJ Devils flag is in beautiful condition.

RE: THE AMERICAN FLAG
Violin, the etiquette says that when the flag becomes old, it should be burnt in a dignified manner.

Now if you mean how should you approach your neighbors to tell them that, that's a whole nother story. Hey, I'm talking like Sarabelle.

RE: THE AMERICAN FLAG
That's what I'm asking.

They are somewhat immature as evidenced by their getting bent out of shape when the other neighbors approached them about their dog so I don't want them to get all weird with us.

RE: THE AMERICAN FLAG
I've seen more American Flags flown from vehicles since the tragidy last week. I gotta get ME one.

I came up on a dirty semi having "Yo Mama, Osama" finger-scribbled on the back.

Over 500,000 flags have been sold on Tuesday, the day after the tragedy between K-Mart & Walmart.

RE: THE AMERICAN FLAG
Just a reminder, if you have an old flag that needs formal "retiring", contact your local Boy Scout Troop. We periodically have formal ceremonies where we burn them properly. It's actually a pretty moving and educational ceremony for the younger scouts to see, most people are never exposed to that type of thing.

RE: THE AMERICAN FLAG
Violin,

Be neighborly and give them an early Christmas present: a brand new U.S. flag. It may suck spending money on flaky neighbors but if they use it, you won't have to look at that scraggly flag anymore.

Or you could buy a new flag and replace the old one in the middle of the night. Just don't get caught. That would look stupid.

RE: THE AMERICAN FLAG
Violin could also tell them what wanderer said about giving the flag to the boyscouts to retire, and how important it would be to them.

RE: THE AMERICAN FLAG
Our Scout troop accumulates old flags and burns them at certain campfires. The whole process is explained as it is carried out.

Thanks for the links. One thing was missing: In a Christian church, the Christian flag goes on the left (as you face the stage) and the American flag on the right. I didn't know that for a long time. It is often reversed by mistake.

RE: THE AMERICAN FLAG
The George P. Johnson Company located in Auburn Hills, MI has raised a 95' x 160' flag on a crain along the freeway. Its an awesome site. Traffic gets backed up as the flag comes into view on I-75. The pictures at http://www.gpjco.com/flash/default.asp don't do it justice.

RE: THE AMERICAN FLAG
I just got one yesterday. 3x5 ft. printed. $8. Some local guy who normally sells them at flea markets said he had some to sell and asked at our paper if we knew of organizations wanting them. He said he had not increased his price at all.... and that he went to order 250 more and there's a huge back-order.

I took of picture of it laying out for our front cover. Should look good. Unlike our stupid moron competing paper.... they are tabloid sized (and in essence ARE a tabloid). They ran a flag print on their front page>>>

BACKASSWARDS!! I hope they hear holy hell for that. Dipwads!

I need to get a pole for my flag yet.
