Bad tempers are a terrible thing.

“Hi folks, I've got something I would like to get off my chest.

While posting something on one of bacpac's threads I made a typo that pissed him off, and rightfully so. After the post we left for the woods for three days and when I got back I had another love letter from him that pissed me off. Well fine, if I can't explain my way out of this I'll meet him somewhere and just beat the hell out of him, of course the reverse could happen. (that's what I was thinking when i went to bed anyway).

So I went to bed last night pissed off that now I've got to go through all this crap. You see, I wasn't really worried about fighting someone, that's old hat, been there and done that before. Laying in bed I thought back, 30 years ago this summer I got myself talked into a fight with this guy (it didn't take much talking, just had to fight), we agreed to meet in a parking lot of an abandoned building on sunday afternoon.

I got there early and was waiting when he pulled up he got out of his car and had an axe handle, well always wanting to be prepared I reached over the seat and got out a baseball bat. The whole thing didn't last 30 seconds or so, I had knots, most of them bleeding, all over me and he was laying unconscious on the pavement bleeding from several places, it wasn't because of skill, I just had a harder head. I loaded him up in his front seat and hauled butt.

I cruised town and that parking lot for an hour and a half praying to God that that guy would wake up and drive off. He finally did. I really dodged a bullet that day, I didn't get killed or kill anyone. I had forgotten how lucky I felt that nothing worst happened.

This morning when I woke up Teresa was putting coffee on my bed table and turning on the TV, whoever wakes up first has to get the coffee and turn on the news, it's usually me because at my age I'm thinking more about peeing than sex in the morings (used to be the other away around). What was the first story but a 18 year old kid who beat this other kid into a coma with a baseball bat in a parking lot and the kid later died. Teresa turned to me and said that's terrible, he killed that boy and now he's going to spend the rest of his life in prison and for what.

Talk about devine intervention, it was like being slapped upside the head with reality. Here I am sitting bed watching tv and having coffee, living the good life, when if things had happened different I could have spent the last 30 years of my life in prison or brain dead from that fight.

You know what's odd my secretary mentioned to me today, the bombing just happened a week ago today. It seems like it's been a month. I've had a headache and an extreme feeling of dread ever since it happened and I guess like a lot of other people I let my feelings get away from me. You just want to do something right or wrong.

In the past I've had to physically interven to keep my son from making the same mistake that I made when I was younger and here I was about to do it again. I feel embarrassed that I couldn't control myself better.

There's a big difference between fighting because your defending yourself and going out and causing or looking for it.

I'm not looking for it anymore, I don't want to fight bacpac, I don't even know him. Bad tempers are a terrible thing.

Bacpac has prolly pissed off about everybody here at one time or another. You'll be better off sometimes chewing on your fingers (as opposed to biteing your lip) instead of typing stuff you may regret later. Don't let things on TT bother ya. I've turned cheek many times. Once in a while I've flew off the handle but it's rare.

“It's amazing what we did in our youth. One time a buddy (now ex-buddy) rigged up his windshield washer to squirt outward. Anyway this jerk off pulled up behind me and proceeded to squirt the my rear end of my freshly washed car. I was so pissed that I jumped out of my car, pulled him out of his and proceeded to kick his a$$ until.............. his buddy got out of the car and smashed my nose in (basically flattened the bridge nad moved it over about 1/2 inch). After that, the fight was pretty much over as I couldn't see all that well. As I sat in the emergency room, I decided that I would always try to practice restraint. I get a reminder everyday when I look in the mirror and see my crooked nose. Sometimes no matter how pissed off you are, you got to let the little things slide.”

There is "righteous anger" at times, but it is much rarer than just being hot headed. From a Biblical perspective, if righteous anger doesn't turn into something constructive rather quickly, then it becomes bitterness, malice, and other bad stuff.

"Cooling off" periods seem to work for me. I try to "respond", not "react".”
